Default Can shocking the carb floats cause the car to lose a 1 mph and a .15 ET in the 1/8th?

Hey Everybody,

The carb ran out of gas with the pump being left off - then I surged the pump WITHOUT bumping it to fill the bowls - then it didn't seem to flood but it didn't run or sound clean - losing a 1 mph and a .15 ET in the 1/8.

Thanks, Craig

Was this during a test & tune session , or into eliminations.

Either way how much time elapsed between the two runs?

Yes absolutely...... Did the engine seem crisp after the pass? ...... These new pumps can over fill the float bowl causing the engine to run rich until the correct level is maintained.

I have shocked the floats once in the garage before but it bent the tab and flooded the motor - never running reasonably after - only either running or flooding.

After the pump issue it has never cleaned up the throttle response - run after run.

How is the float adjustment? I'd think if something went wrong from "shocking" the floats they wouldn't hold and adjustment.

I would like to know also ?
Is it possible to bend a float tab ?
I have filled my bowls many times with the pump and the return regulator just by passes the fuel back to the tank.
You would think something would have to be wrong with the regulator to bend a tab or something.

Bends the tabs if just turned on with an empty bowl WITHOUT BUMPING the pump first - otherwise pump and regulator are flawless.
