69 bird driveshaft, painted or natural finish?
I've seen both, but not sure which is correct. I've also seen some with stripes. Anybody know how they came out of the factory?

I think they were natural, with stripes.

All the pics I've seen of "restored" cars have driveshafts natural in color, but I haven't seen any recent pics with stripes.
I did find the stripe color code in the service manual. Thanks Cammer. |

then use satin clear to preserve if thats the finish you re after.
Make sure the stripes are plenty sloppy

Mine didn’t have stripes it had a single paint dab I think it was orange. . Came out w super low miles and had the original joint still in-place . Dab was 2.5 inch by 1 inch approx going long way. Back near rear weight.
I painted the shaft and replicated the mark next time it’s on the lift I’ll Take a picture. This one is not mine but found it online looks kinda like mine but I remember mine being longer the king way of the drive shaft. Unless I’m remembering it wrong

Interesting..... I'm guessing there may be no rhyme or reason on the way some markings were applied on different assembly lines/shifts. I'm curious to see your pics, turbo. Thanks for sharing.

So this is repainted ( so I wouldn’t have to worry about it rusting in the future , but it’s identical to what it looked like before I repainted it. I copied it exactly. This driveshaft has its original U joints in it still.
If you look it’s similar to the one in the assembly line photo although that one looks dabbed and this one looks like it was kind of swooshed along its length. Idk that it mattered to them just that it got dabbed in some way with orange . But that’s just a guess . I just wanted to copy it exactly and I didn’t remove the original so I was able to see the raised area to copy it exactly
