I check with our local paint store and they said that the violent has been obsolete for a while but they still make it anyway.

This is the code. The counterguy kept it, but when he went back I snapped a pic: |

the PPG code is 2213 it is the same blue that is on a 1970 corvette.
give them this PPG 2213 # . there is no reason they cant get close unless PPG did not formulate that color in DBC. that color was originally a DDL color a (lacquer ) to many cars are painted this color now . there is a answer , when you get the color correct . buy extra, years from now you probably will not be able to get DBC . waterbase is the coming product .so make sure you have enough for a repair. when you get it. get new cans and fill them to top with paint . so it will keep several states you cannot get DBC right now . where i am its off the list . and several other states. you may want to look into doing car in waterbase the camera is only to get you close its not always close |

I'm guessing your in New Mexico, I don't know how that state is but over here in Arizona solvent based paints are still readily available and all I'll use. If he's using BASF you can arrive at the correct color simply using the paint code 26 off the cowl tag, if the paint store is worth anything. Here's one I painted in Lucerne Blue. It matched the original paint found behind the fenders perfectly, using a base/clear BASF system. https://youtu.be/AOqwz3QlO5k |

That is precisely the color I wish. I wonder what the painter used on my jambs?
Either way, I simply bought the BASF and had it sent to him. |

Shaker Scoop Paint Code Confirming
Tacking onto this thread... I have Lucerne Blue Code 26, TA and when the PO had the car repainted they didn't paint the hood scoop, so it's at the painter now to fix some minor ills and remove the "Ram Air" decals (b/c that "ain't" right" )
I found elsewhere on here that the 1970 white TA color was Polar white and knew it was code 10-10 thanks to another factory white 70 that a buddy and I saved from the scrap yard during the summer of 2020. Question to confirm, the shaker scoop color on a Lucerne Blue car is in fact the code 10-10 Polar White correct? The codes I found on this forum were listed as from someone's original 1970 paint chip collection that the three leading manufacturers and their codes for polar white are as follows: Dupont-5040 PPG-8631 Rinshed Mason A/1802 If I give these to my painter, they should be good to go right? Sorry for the seemingly obvious question, but I've learned to measure twice and cut once over the years.... |

Code 10 is right for a 70 shaker .... IF your stripe kit is correct for a 70.
70 kit uses #10 classic white 5040 in the stripe trim 71-72 kit uses #11 antique white 5338 in the stripe trim Very noticeable difference in those 2 whites side by side . |

Thank you! that was part of the reason I wanted it repainted... the shaker, in addition to the other reasons mentioned, looked a tinge "yellow" compared to the stripe, i chalked it up to aging paint... sounds like either the scoop and/or the previous set of decals could have been antique white as that paint job was done 20+ yrs ago based on what history I have been able to gather by talking to the guy who owned it around 2004. I am confident the most recent owner bought the correct decal kit.

Not necessary important for your situation. but as a point of interest. both the code 10 and code 26 are corvette only colors as well as the bright blue interior color used in the interior of a 70 TA.
What's interesting is corvette colors were traditionally not available on any other GM car |

First 2 website showing paint chips for 1970 Pontiac show 26 available, at least for Firebirds. Not sure if this is Trans Am only. Of course in 1971 the door was wide open for Lucy Blue... https://hdpaintcode.com/pontiac/ https://www.tachrev.com/Paint_Charts...aint_chart.jpg https://www.paintref.com/cgi-bin/col...r=1970&con=moy |

If you look at the corvette chart. the ppg number . that is there formula code . is the same. the lucerne blue is mulsanna blue in corvette chart
this is important . that there are more opportunity's to find these colors in the corvette sites . especially with the interior color bright blue . |

Not to hijack this, but oil-based car paint is now outlawed where I live... is there a brand of water-base paint for Type 26 that's any better than the others?

Original poly has metallic in it. It now has pearls in it. This means 5 sided vs 2 sided . This brings more reflective color change to the table. Volkswagen has a color from early 80's for a special edition Bug thats close, and base can be water based
