Just dropped a Cold Case radiator in my 68 firebird this weekend, 70 bucks for 2 gallons of GX05 and a bottle of water wetter! Sorry, had to rant.

What is GX05? I have a cold case and used regular coolant concentrate with distilled water- what am I missing?

Walmart - it’s not the traditional green, rather a yellowish green

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Prestone-...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Here’s the traditional green: https://prestone.com/product/prime-conventional-green/

Just a side note about water wetter, and antifreeze mixtures. The water wetter is much less effective in antifreze mixtures, it really shines in pure water, or reduced antifreeze mixtures. Even being mixed with pure water though it only helps a small percentage over none. A 10 degree reduction would be about as much as you should expect under ideal conditions.

It's no magic bullet for a car with other problems that are making the cooling system inefficient.

I've had two different radiator shops over the years tell me when I asked what coolant to use.."Anything but Prestone."...and I've never used it since. One of the radiators was clogged up with green jelly.

I've seen that once. No idea what brand of anti-freeze it used to be, but it was green. A Chevy B-body "Whale body" at the Treasure Yard, that I grabbed the transmission and accessory mounts/accessories/pulleys, and some misc. parts out of. Should have taken the rear axle.

Seeing chunky green Jello once was enough. Ick.

I've seen G05, I don't know about GX05. My "favorite" antifreeze is "Peak Global Lifetime", but NOT the pre-diluted scam. I buy the full-strength concentrate--I just can't find a photo of that.

I've never had any issue with it and certainly not that green jelly condition - of course it should be changed every few years and avoid adding other additives to it that may be incompatible

This is probably the best value for green anti freeze, been using it for 20+ years with no problems or issues at all, usually much longer change intervals than every few years too, probably closer to 7-10 years. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tec...0&from=/search

Have also used prestone & other brands of the green stuff for just as long with no issues, definitely no "green jelly" like in the pics above, just pure liquid when changed & looks nice & green still. Have used it and other brands in my classic pontiac cars with OEM radiators as well as aluminum radiators, also in daily drivers at 200k+ miles with OEM radiators. Never had any problems with the traditional green stuff.

So figured I’d start with the basics. The coolant that’s in the car is what I put in there back in ‘08 when I dropped the newly rebuilt engine in. I figured it’s long overdue for a good flush of the block and radiator.
Instead of refilling with the 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water, I’d try Water Wetter. I used it back in the 90’s on a hot running car, but don’t know if it actually helped or not. My cars now stay in a heated and A/C shop, so freezing in the winter isn’t an issue.
So, anyone using Water Wetter? Did it help cooling? Anyone hate it? Why?
Thanks!
Where are you measuring your temperature?

Wherever the stock temperature sending unit was. I think on the front of the intake, going by my poor memory.

Thanks. In my 72, the water temp sender is in the side of the the passenger side head. I’ve always wondered if that was hotter than the water in the crossover in the intake. Sorry, that doesn’t have anything to do with your thread.
