70 T/A exhaust system
I'm getting around to buying and am looking for some feedback on the best supplier for a stock system (transverse muffler) Suggestions?

I think the thread on tips mentioned gardener is best. But I don't know .They make stock replacement parts but is stock the best? I seen ra3 cars with x pipe to deduce back pressure and a borla muffler same performance as flows without the noise. I personally don't like the extra noise. Many years ago High performance mag. Did an experiment on mufflers and borla was the quietest best flowing but not cheap. I think exhuast systems are personal preference unless you building a true stock car to flip which I have learned a lot do. IM not selling mine.

I got mine from Waldron since I'm from Michigan. I personally went there to order and back again to pick it up. Although it's not hung on my car yet, just the buying experience was very pleasant. The gal at the front desk treated me like family. We had a very nice conversation. The transverse muffler is sourced from a guy in Canada, and I did have a delay from him but it WAS during covid shutdowns and Canada was far more restricted than us here. But, Waldron's communication was top notch all the way through it. When I do have it on my car I will give feedback on fitment. They offered two sound levels for the muffler in either aluminized steel or stainless. Andy

Gardner.. got the glass too.. twice....
Went on just like stock systems I installed at the dealer. We didn't get hours to install exhaust. We had a 4 post lift just for this. No guessing on clearances, minor adjustments, usually a slight twist. This is a 455HO. but sound, fit and finish is spot on. Would meet Harold's High quality Demands!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx3hN1kTvZo&t=35s

I put a Gardner system on a '72 I had a few years ago. It fit and sounded great.
I just cheaped out and put Thrush system on a '70. The fit wasn't the greatest but sounds good.

My 2 1/2 Thrush exhaust ($300 with muffler) probably not correct as a gardener but it sounds great. https://www.facebook.com/Carmolingo/...06714098451751 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-89021#overview

My car had the Gardner system when I got it. I thought the fit and appearance was excellent. Sounded good too.
Here's a sound clip with the previous RAIII motor: https://youtu.be/u1TXdkyh29k But, my current Pypes system is also very nice looking, mandrel bent and sounds very good too. Plus you get and X or H pipe. Tips look really good. Pypes sound clip: https://youtu.be/ldukr0rEMz4

It got fed back into the machine. It's been recycled into who knows what by now.

I imagine any good exhaust shop that replaces vintage systems could make the pipes to spec. I have one locally I think I'll talk to. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk |

The over the axle pipes are Always the tough to get right pipes for a stock type system.

The factory Oldberg 481248 transverse muffler was an assembly that included the muffler and rear tail pipes welded to it. Thus I don't remember ever seeing just the NOS 481248 transverse muffler itself being up for sale over the counter.
There was a guy in Chesterfield Missouri that was working on reproducing the 69 TA Oldberg resonators and transverse muffler but I haven't heard a peep about it in quite some time. He would be the ideal source to get the 481248 reproduced. I have an original Oldberg 481248 muffler dated A10 with welded on tail pipes and bolted on over the axle pipes that would be perfect to use for reproduction references.

I've put the exhaust systems from "Classic Exhaust" on 5 cars now. Sounds like the factory system and for about 1/2 the price. Very happy with them.

Here you go Norwood!
My memory isn't what is used to be. It's embossed 3 70 A The muffler hangers are still on the tail pipe tubes but the tubes are welded onto the muffler.
