Thanks Paul K. I have gained a lot of respect for those who do hand porting. Oh my gosh, the time, diligence, and patience that is required is beyond my comprehension. I tried my hand some time ago on a set of 71 #96 heads per Hand's book. I made it thru about 90 - 95% on one head and had to throw in the towel. Time and patience are not better virtues for me. Thanks for being kind!

Ok, good!
So now with that 1.61" or so valve sitting on top of the valve guide you now have more area there then what a stock D port head would have had if it came from the factory with a 2.11" valve .

This will pick up your high lift flow now, if the short turn arc is right, besides the lower lift flow gain from the valve job that was done.

I would still Emplore you to do everything possible to get one cylinder flow tested because if you have a turbulence issue now which is possible you will find this out from the flow test, and spending another 5 minutes of of guided rework on the short turn of each Intake bowl will get rid of that issue.

This will get you the added high lift flow that then should have from the area you now have in the bowl.

Here's a few shots of big work!

This is a head that has been set up for 2.14" intakes and that's a 1.850" template down in the valve bowl of a #62 head, and the rest of the port has been opened up to geometricly compliment that valve bowl throat area.

I have flattened out the short turn radius that very closely matches the template radius of 1.60. From here I will try to get flow numbers, as now I'm curious.

Hold on now, your not done just yet !

Get a 60 grit floor sanding roll and tare / cut it into strips 1/2” wide and 12 to 14” long.
Then like in my photo run it back & forth ( sawing motion ) over any of the short turn area you reworked..

Your looking for no more then 1/32” of ruffness along with a good blend when your done.

Here are some flow numbers to reference to if you are able to get a flow test done on them.

The first column is a stock number 15 with its 1.96” valve.
The second column is a stock 1971 96 casting with its stock 2.11” valve and its stock 1.60” throat.

Flow test @ 28”

.050”. 41.4. 39.5
.100”. 75.9. 75.8
.200”. 139. 135.3
.300”. 173. 177.5
.400”. 180. 198.8
.450”. 181.3. 203.7
.500”. 183.8. 206
.550”. 208.4
.600”. 209.8

It’s only another hour at most to get all 8 intakes done, then pop a cold one to toast!

Took the liberty of flattening out the pushrod bumps while we're at it.

Nice work!
Cheers!🍻

Note that in post 26 the last two flow numbers given at .550" and .600" where for the #96 casting.

While we're at it here is what the machinist did to one of the intake valves out of the set I sent with the heads, the one on the left. New old stock TRW Ram Air replacement valves.

The one on the right in your photo looks like the stock one which has a 30 degree seat and has the much needed margin before the face / chamber side of the valve.

The one the left looks to be modified to a 45 degree seat and then back cut some, but the bad thing is that it has no margin .
A margin is needed to 1) help a flow cone form around the perimeter of the valve and 2) have a stable flow cone.
A margin is also needed so that the thin area does not over heat and burn.

Also was only one valve done this way, I don’t follow?

Yes, he only did one to show me what he wanted to do, I guess instead of talking to me first. Wish he would have talked to me about the head work first! So now I suppose I'll have to find another valve?

Good numbers he got you and you tweaked up with your detailing work!
It’s was worth it all, no?
Looks like over all up to .500” lift you have a 73.5% exh to intake ratio.

If your going to run headers then that would be increased to about 77% which is where I might start to think about a single pattern Cam if you do not have one already in hand, that is unless your final compression is going to be 8.5 or less.

I'm happy! And thanks for the coaching. I wouldn't have gone this far with these heads without it quite honestly. Worth it!
I have headers for it.
I have two cams currently:
Lunati 10510704LK
Speedpro CS-1175R that I purchased recently from a member here.
I also have Crower springs 68404 and retainers.
