Default Firebird 76 relocate oil filter

Anyone done this and have some pics?
I see that butler performance has a kit, but there are options on straight or 45/90 AN fittings and hose lengths.

Is your block currently in the car, or is it out ?

This is route I have gone when it’s out.

Two 2 Qt filters require no bypass even with cold
When the oil is warm this is a zero restriction set up.

The block is drilled and taped for 1/2” pipe thread.

Block is out. Stripped down, doing machine work now.
I see no reason to buy expensive adapter plate if one could tap the block and thread directly into the block. Great idea.

X2,

But since my decision to remote mount was made after the motor was in the car. I used the Canton block plate, it has a provision for the oil pressure sender to screw into it about where the stock housing does, so that is helpful.

When I was doing my engine I read a lot about this as I was adamant that I would use a remote mount. I'm sure that it was stated that tapping the block does away with the bypass facility in case the filter gets blocked therefore completely starving the engine of oil in such circumstance. I went for the butler kit but replaced the crappy barbed fittings for proper an fittings and -12 lines. My filter is on the core support next to the radiator so has a good 3ft of line each way!

You really want to know the oil pressure that's going back into the motor out of the filter and the 1/2" pipe holes at the end of a filter mount allow you to do that.

The solution to you concern about the bypass is to use filters with internal bypasses. I run Ford long filers on my dual remote housing. The bypass inside them is screened so it will catch the big chunks that the original Pontiac bypass won’t and the relief pressure is higher so it isn’t passing unfiltered oil all the time.

X2, The Canton block plate has the threaded hole for the factory pressure sender on the return line.

The canton adapter looks like a nice part, especially if the pressure sender fitting is on the return line.
