Hydraulic roller cam cores
Trying to get a Hydraulic roller camshaft ground and NOBODY has Pontiac cores available, and no ETA on any too. Anybody have any leads? I need one for a customer I'm building a 525' engine for. I need something in the 250ish intake and 260ish exhaust range. I can get solid roller cams but I'd rather go hydraulic if possible.

How about buying a used solid roller of more lift and duration then you need and then getting it reground?
Have you tried Jones cam designs?

Give a call to Tim Goolsby directly at Bullet Racing Cams, ext 102.. He has repaired and re-ground many cams. If you find a core that needs repair it depends on damage, depth of hardness and profile. The price will be right.
Personally a few years ago I had Tim regrind a damaged solid roller cam for $157.50 + freight.. https://www.bulletcams.com/ .

I got the same answer yesterday trying to order a cam. I deal with George at Clay Smith and he told me he used to get cores by the pallet and now they are only coming 10 to 20 at a time.

Fairly recently LSM had some mid 250/260 .400 lobe cams ground and in stock. I don’t remember the exact specs.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a solid roller cam instead. I spoke with multiple Pontiac racers at the Sick Week race today at Gainesville today and they all are running solid rollers. Driving them hundreds of miles too.

I would really love to know why Bullet said that gods used solid roller could not be re-ground into a hydro roller?
Did they give any explanation as to why that is?

But hey, if guys want to go through that all the time, have at it. It's fun to watch but those guys really torture themselves to make those "race" cars survive. Dad did the solid roller thing on the street, Tony spec'd something that was supposed to be soft on the valvetrain, and only needed 240lbs. on the seats, then used Crowers (very expensive) pin oiled rollers, and was a tight lash setup to start with. It lasted about 5000 miles on the street before a lifter went south. Not even remotely interested in solid rollers anymore for a street car. |

OK, I got a hydraulic roller from Mark at Luhn Performance. He had one in stock that was pretty much the specs I was looking for. Also ordered his oil pump for the engine as well.
