Turn signal blowing…….
Hey Guys,
1969 GTO, my turn signal fuse continues to blow. Signal works well sitting in the driveway… can turn steering wheel fully with signal on in either direction without issue. I learned today, fuse blows only while right turn signal is in-use and making a right turn only! I’m thinking a grounding issue? Only thing I can think is…that the headlight wiring harness is getting pinched as body flexes during right turns?? Any other ideas?? Thx!! |

Look around in trunk and under hood at visible wires going to those bulb sockets. You might find something obvious, on the right side. I never cared for the design of some of those bulb sockets.

Same thing happened with my '67 Lemans Sprint. The battery on the passenger side was not tightend down enuf and would shift on some turns, pinching the wire to the core support.

First take that bulb out, take the car out for a drive and see if that fuse still pops.

Hide-aways were notorious for pinching the front lamp harness. Maybe follow the front harness to the turn lamps to find a suspect pinch. Yea, around stock battery location too.

I take it your not the original owner of the car because those look stripped out for trouble shooting, either that or dry rot accelerated by those wires resting on the heater duct along with movement ate thru those wires.
Your kinda lucky you did not do as some fools do and set up the fuse rating because you would have had fire.

No Im not the original owner ….. that part of the harness runs through drivers -side fender…..that short over the years melted that blue rt turn signal wire throughout the main harness, which led to me learning more about the main harness than I ever thought I would want to know!
