Rear spoiler
I am installing a rear spoiler on my 69 GTO convertible and would like any tips etc on drilling the holes in the trunk lid, alignment. It’s the spoiler that wraps down to the quarter panels. Thanks

Not sure at this point if there's more than one supplier of these repops or if quality has improved (I doubt it) but the convertible repop I bought from PP in 2015 was absolute crap. The ends of the wing are supposed to touch the quarters (foam pad pressed in between) and the junk I got from them was like a full 1" gap. Pedestals didn't follow the deck lid lines either. I had to fill the hollow pedestals with resin then cut them down to bring the wing down to where it needed to be. I have a factory hardtop wing that I copied to put mounting studs in the correct spot after I'd chopped them down. customer service from them was the typical "we've sold millions of them and everyone loves them without ever a single complaint" I understand reproduction can't be perfect but this looked ridiculous on the car as delivered. here's a "before" picture, and one after I modified it.

I just installed one of these yesterday. It does sit too high as noted above.
I put tape on the trunk lid, then positioned the spoiler where I wanted it. Traced around the mounting pads, then taped the mounting pad down and used the holes in the pad to drill the holes. Im pretty sure it was 16” from the end of the spoiler to the corner of the trunk lid on both sides. The manufacturing of these are so inconsistent I would not drill the holes based off of the diagram until you verify it works. I would tape the pads down where the diagram says the holes go and then set the spoiler on it and see if it’s right. |
