Default Timing cover to intake donut/o-ring

Not having any luck on Google. Does anyone know if Fel-pro sells this individually? I need one for my bird due to a leak in that area and since it has a separated water c-over so I don’t need a full intake gasket set. Butler has but shipping cost is prohibitive. Hoping I can source over the counter assuming there is a part number.

They should come with the intake gasket set or timing gaskets set.... But I doubt it's availble seperately anymore.

Butler sells them as well but shipping makes it cost prohibitive

Just make one if you are impatient. I am sure you can find something in your garage to make one.

The ones in the fel pro sets are thin compared to the butler ones fwiw. The butler one seals up better

Funny. The Used Pontiac O-rings make excellent water hose washers. I've got some sprayer nozzles that are deep threaded and the regular washers aren't thick enough.

Just got back from the PO. 2 seals inda mail.. whooping .99 centavos... . enjoy

BTW if your cover is pitted clean real well and just wipe a thin layer of silicone over every mating surface intake, cover, seal and give a couple good days for it to harden before pressurizing I like the gray stuff seems to harden real well compared to blue, red, black

.

If you have a flat surface large enough, put down some self adhesive sandpaper on it and lap the gasket surface of the whole dang cover. Shows up problem areas real quick and removes any little imperfections sticking up that could cause a problem down the road.

If not a large flat ... then the largest sanding block you have. But go easy that way, don't round over any edges, or make any ridges.

Most people don't do it and never have a problem, but if you have the time and tools why not.

As mentioned, a thin bead of RTV is permissible on the machined mating flanges if they're pitted for extra insurance. I wouldn't trust just the donut, honestly. Even if it's compressed using the correct sequence where you keep the intake boots loose before you torque the draw bolt.

Yep, this is what I did, and it's what Rocky Rotella recommends in his book How To Rebuild Pontiac V8s. In addition to ensuring a good seal, it also helps hold the o-ring in place during installation. I also applied a thin layer of RTV on the intake mating surface, and my engine has zero leaks anywhere. Being such a leak-prone area by design, a thin layer of RTV in this location is definitely the way to go, IMO.

Default Intake install

Silicone both sides of o-ring thin, install front bolt just touching timing cover, install intake bolts until they touch the manifold. This will allow the intake to slide forward and squish the o-ring. Tighten front bolt then torque intake. Never had a leak doing it this way ever on pitted timing covers.
