1960 389 Freeze Plug size same as all 389's?
I have a corroded freeze plug I need to replace on my 1960. Are these all the same size as the 389's of later years where there were three on each side? Mine has the two large ones on each side of the block. A vendor lists several engines and years for the one kit.. I wasn't certain about this so wanted to check first!
Maybe someone here has one or two they want to get rid of (Sell me) saving me even more time. The one I need to replace is just over the motor mount on the passenger side. May be easy to remove except I have the AC/pump mounted over it so maybe the proper puller can fit in there.. Thank you! |

Corroded/? had to be steel than. brass plugs never do that. ALWAYS use brass. not a place to compromise.
Either 1 15/16" or 1 61/64" both work fine. Hope this helps you

Thanks for sharing the video. MY 1957 has one rust perforated expansion plug in the cylinder head, and perhaps another 1 or 2 on the back of the block behind the transmission. Your video is convincing me I should probably pull the transmission and the engine and replace all the freeze plugs.
I just hope I don't find a cracked block instead of a rusty expansion plug when I drop the transmission.

If one is rotted the rest aren't far behind. If you have any chance do them all.
