Talked to a couple of friends in Naples Florida. "An 112 miles per hour wind gust was also reported in Naples around 12:30 pm" so the palm trees and taking a beating again.
Glad the Building Codes call for roof retention straps. Tom V.

But they won’t. FL building codes call for Simpson clips on all roof trusses in residential dwellings. Simpson clips are allegedly good up to 140 mph. The company that brought our house up to code told me not to count on it holding much over 120 mph. Ian made landfall with winds at 150+ mph. God help those who chose to “hunker down”. We haven’t heard from our friends in Ft. Myers since last night. We are hoping for the best.

Some brutal wind gusts here in East Tampa since 3pm. Worst I've experienced in my 27 years here...yard and fencing are a mess.
We've lost some old-time trees in the yard...

Do you still have power?
From some of the pics I have seen, looks like Tampa area was lucky the storm entered down lower. (still bad but could have been very catastrophic) The amount of storm surge and winds around Fort Myers looks devastating. I'm hoping my favorite beach in Sarasota is still OK. Michael (I think?) destroyed most of the beach and had to be rebuilt. Can't imagine what Sanibel Island looks like? Praying for you guys in that area.

We do have power, although we had it flicker on and off a good 50 times from 3 pm to about 11 pm. Longest outage was 6 minutes per a Tampa Electric automated phone call. Yeah, if it was this rough up here, I can't imagine how much devastation the Sarasota to Naples area took on. Was up until 3am and saw some very depressing early videos and pictures on the local news station. That was some of the angriest wind I've ever seen here, and we were somewhat far from the eye.... This is going to be a bad one after the next couple of days of discovery.

Yep. Most folks think a 50 t0 60`ish mph wind is powerful. And it is. A 75 mph wind gets your attention. From 95 up, the sound gets different to the point of scaring one. |

Agreed. And that upper atmosphere roar is absolutely incredible. I've heard it before on past hurricanes, but Ian was a different beast. Mother Nature does not screw around when she gets this angry. Makes one feel small and insignificant.

DIL in Deland (SW of Daytona) said no property damage, just small limbs down. Power has been out since last night though.

I haven’t been able to get any eyeballs on my place. But I believe the retirement community in Englewood, that our manufactured home is in was destroyed.

A couple of hours ago I heard from a friend in Sarasota. She said they were without power from 5 last night until 8 this morning. Some tree and fence damage was all she suffered.

My wife is from Tampa and all the relatives and friends she has down there, that she has talked to at least, are in pretty good shape today. Just cleaning up branches and stuff. Her brother didn't even lose power.
Prayers are up for those that were not so fortunate.

We have family in Englewood and aside from a destroyed lanai and fence (and some roof shingles) they are essentially intact. Hope you fare as well.

Haven't been able to get in contact with the inlaws in Naples yet. I think their community evacuated them to Orlando .... which got bad flooding shortly afterward. Late 80's, so a bit worrisome.

It only has the one bridge. They are evacuating by boat and chopper. May be awhile before anyone will be able to enter by bridge.
