70 TA Engine Color
So I used the Bill Hirsch 66-72 Metallic Blue but it's not the right color.
New motor with Bill Hirsch paint: Old motor with unknown paint (which looks correct to me) So which paint do I need and is it worth the trouble of repainting the motor?

I thought you could buy the correct paint in a rattle can already ready to go I think I did that with mine about 25 years ago and never started my car now I have to take it all apart again. Classic Industries or Ames probably has the correct paint. I'm learning that this obsession with getting everything correct is sort of ridiculous unless you're in the business of buying and selling cars that's my two cents. I read on one of these threads this topic and it is sold in a rattle can

It's a color thing but it's also a sheen thing too. With different lighting it looks better.

Is the paint metallic?
From the pics it doesn't look like it has any metal flake in it.

My car guy picked it up and brought it to his shop yesterday and I'm heading over there today to drop off some parts so I'll look at it again. I said this thread was stupid for many reasons. First, I should have tested the color first, that was dumb. Second, I'm not sure that trying to re-paint it now is the best idea. Even though it's not a perfect color match, Archie did a really nice job on the application and I'm worried that I'll just mess it up by trying to redo it.

Color looks closer to a 1972 paint than '70

What are your opinions on trying to repaint it? Would it have to be sanded or stripped or could it just be cleaned and painted over since it is freshly painted?

I haven't painted an engine in a while, but used to use this with good results. Not even sure it's still out there.

I would think you can probably scuff it and spray it. I wouldn’t mess with stripping it all off.

Yep that’s the one to use. We use it all the time on ours. Looks perfect

For what it’s worth, I think there is a thread on PY about this as well. The aluminum and it’s texture have something to do with the way it turns out. I agree. Scuff and shoot the 1616 on top. The Other will make a good base coat for the 1616.

There is no need to scuff again, since the previous coats are so fresh. Go to your local chain auto parts store and get a spray can of BULLDOG. It will be located on the isle with all the paint supply stuff. Apply as directed before painting. This stuff works on paint, powder coat and plastics.

I talked to Butler today. Said this ITU paint is the best, in his opinion. Looks maybe a shade dark to me though, but very good.
https://butlerperformance.com/i-3164...tegory:1234846 Said the Duplicolor 1616 was also excellent. He also said (as said above) that with such fresh paint you don't need to do anything but clean it well and paint. Says they do it often when they have a color/finish problem.

I called Hirsch this morning to just give them the FYI that their paint color is not correct. The guy told me to send pictures so their paint Chemist could look at them. Hopefully they'll fix it, or maybe just click the delete button and go have a sandwich...
