1970 Saddle Interior Colors
I saw this yesterday and was wondering did the 1970 saddle standard interior come from the factory with so many different colored components?

Not sure about the Saddle interiors, but the Sandlewood interiors are somewhat the same with the color variances throughout the interior like you are showing..

It would be interesting to see the trim tag or PHS for that car to see what interior color it originally came with. Someone obviously replaced / re-covered probably every trim part, but the hodge-podge mix of colors is not correct for either Saddle or Sandalwood.

Is this correct for Sandlewood?
Would be nice to see correct examples for Sandlewood and Saddle cars... |

I came across that listing today;
I can't help but think that the column was generally a colour which more closely matched the dash (and original wheel); There are several colours going on there, and although it does look nice, I question the multiplicity of colour too. I would also think that the door panels also should all be the same colour...

My 70 gto came with saddle interior but the carpet,dash,package tray,kick panels and the carpet on the bottom of the door panels are all dark saddle so that pic of the firebird is correct. The dark saddle on the dash and console do look darker than my dark saddle but taking photos sometimes can throw off what it actually looks like in person but pontiac did mix the 2 colors together for 1970. Also there's plenty of factory examples of a black formula wheel combined with a non black,color matched steering column.

That interior is a train wreck....from a correct color perspective...
I bought a 70 Esprit with that same color saddle interior about 20 years ago and there were no color contrasts like that.... This was the creators idea. Door panel armrests and kick panels appear to be original color..... Dash and console have been painted wrong color....See front console mounting bracket...s/b black...and dash almost look like a cap..... Steering column is way too bright and shiny.....and should be black with Formula wheel... But other than that....It's GREAT... |

I did forget to mention the Formula wheel is wrong on the Saddle interior, but both examples are 50 years old and slowly changing color from age and sun exposure. I have blue, green, and gold original interior A-bodies and you want to see some color change...all the hard plastic panels are blotchy now and have been dyed (sprayed) so they look better.

this thought occurred to me;
are we seeing some extra colour contrasts because of leather being used? in my mind's eye, a degree of fading difference between the door panel an arm rest would bea reasonable; but this one seems a bit much. notice how the door panels and seats seem to be thier own colour?

Yes the collar should be black on in the pics first post but there are examples of painted columns with black formula wheel.

the painted columns with a formula wheel are all cars that left the factory WITHOUT a formula wheel;
The column was colour matched to the wheel.

A couple of images from an original 04 D Norwood 70 Formula Sandalwood interior. Note confirms Formula steering wheel option has black column.
Unfortunately, the interior still looks the same as I have had this car for over 15 years and have not restored it yet. |
