I think GTOGeorge should be on the list as he DID run in the 7s and he did race Pontiacs for many years on the dragstrips.
Fair is fair. Tom V.

Ok - Legend is a big word - I 'm just honoring a mentor for me and others - Slowbird - But your father - Robert Cooper has always inspired me with his years of competitive winning in modified, his willingness to help, being a good man and how many years has he been racing and still racing at his age now?
Thanks, Craig |

There was another Pontiac guy from Delaware, John Thropp. You ever hear of him? 😁

Yep, my old friend John Thropp was one of of the best with Pontiacs. R.I.P. Don’t forget Fred Borcherdt who owned and drove “Rocky’s Goat”, which he sold and was renamed “Nemesis.” Fred also worked on John’s 57 Pontiac. Also, Bill Grant and Richie Kerr who had the 59 Pontiac “Devil’s Chariot.” There was a wicked Pontiac station wagon from this area too, the guy’s name escapes me .

I know Jack can fill in the blanks here, but Mickey Thompson did so many crazy modifications to the Pontiac engine that it became the basis for many records in unusual sizes. He sliced and diced the Pontiac into 4 cylinders, 2 cylinders and probably others to meets various class requirements. Don't know if he ever ran one as a V-6, V4, or inline 3. But think of all the changes that would be needed to make that happen. Not to mention the multiple engine combinations. Incredible guy.

Mickey was the idea man,the man that actually make it happen was Fritz Voight.Did a lot of business with him in the 60s.I would go to there shop on Coto st in the back door and buy cast off speed equipment to fuel my racing thirst. He had a shop in the Maywood Bell area.Years later I would go to his shop and also meet him at the Long Beach hipo swap meet and see what he had dug out.I know Jack had talked to him over the years on the hemi project. He truly is the legend!Tom

Came here to say this.
The original Pontiac Historian. Without Fred there would be no PHS. K

Not a racer, but Steve Ames was a major contributor to preserving our Pontiacs!

I say to add Tom S to the list. He’s a plethora of knowledge on all things Ram Air, Super Duty, and experimental stuff most of us never even knew existed. He raced and ran with the Who’s who of racers in Southern California the 60’s. He’s a huge source of knowledge (both past and present) and is always helpful to anyone in need. Not to mention pulling off a huge project of bringing the SD Bathtub back and better than ever!
He’s a big part of our hobby and I feel he should be recognized
