RIP racer Jim Kinnett
While most of you may not know this guy, a few here do. Jim died of cancer yesterday.
Jim ran a Super Stock AA/ Hemi Cuda and then transitioned to Pro Stock in the late 70's early 80's. He was one of the first to run a 12 bolt chevy in the Mopar's due to less friction and less HP to turn. He was a Super Stock and Pro Stock record holder as well. Jim owned a large Autoparts/Speed Shop and Machine shop in Georgia where he built his own Hemi engines and engines for other racers. At one time his building housed Race Cams Inc., Chrome Crankshaft Co. and a few others. I worked for him in the machine shop as a machinist/engine builder in the 80's. He liked every type of make and model and was a true car guy. He helped me with my Pontiacs a good bit back then. Car make didn't matter to this guy. Guy could fix anything at the track just to make next round. Another racer gone.

I grew up in his neighborhood for a period as a youngster and was best friends with his son, jimbo. I lived on kinnett drive back then so that tells you something. We moved away and life went on, so I have not seen the kinnetts since the early 80’s. I was too young then to car much about cars- it was bmx bikes and tree forts. But later in life as I came to driving age, and purchased my first Pontiac, I often thought back to them. We used to build and shoot off rockets in his front yard.
RIP Jim, and condolences jimbo. If u happen to find this, it’s Kap. |

Cool. I enjoyed that time of life. Not a worry in the world. Went to Anniston elementary and first year Shiloh opened. Then we moved.
