Default Trans cooler

REPLACING steel trans cooler lines from the TH400 to after market cooler that sits in front of radiator. I want to run steel flex lines that are pre cut and ready to bolt up. Anyone know how long these lines should be on a 1965 GTO? Or maybe a known kit that will work for me.

"Steel flex lines"?

Do you mean "hoses"?

Using hose where metal tubing would suffice is crazy. Double-wall, seamless steel tubing is lighter, less expensive, less porous, more durable, and more resistant to damage from road debris than steel-braid-over-rubber-hose. Steel-braid-over-Teflon (PTFE) liner-hose is even more expensive. The copper-nickle alloy tubing is more expensive than double-wall seamless steel tubing; but it's said to be easier to work with.

1st you may find that you are better off keeping your original steel lines and ADDING braided lines to go to the new tranny cooler as braided hose will need to be supported (mounted) in many places to prevent "whip fatigue") Also worth mentioning here is what TYPE of cooler you are adding.

https://www.trucool.com/products

also worth a mention....READ THE DIRECTIONS!!!...not all coolers mount the way YOU MIGHT THINK THEY SHOULD...per flow direction

Efficient 'stacked plate' design, unlike typical tube & fin type that is less efficient.

Example, oil cooler from Earl's Performance Plumbing are very good. B&M and others also offers a similar 'stacked plate' design.

Don't go over size unless necessary. Torque converter stall and cruising slippage can be a factor. Some suggest you can 'over cool' a trans.

Curious….
Just saw those trucool pieces the other day while shopping around, and they appear to be identical to B&M super coolers, but at a lower price point. Visually, dimensionally, and if one is to believe Amazon’s product info section…same country of origin- Mexico.

I wondering if trucool makes them, then sells to Holley/B&M?

I bought a B&M trans cooler years ago. Made by Long. Long also made the radiators for the City Buses I was involved in. Long has a good reputation.

i use a hayden stacked plate cooler, same design as b&m but cheaper price. if you have headers the OEM steel lines probably cant be used as they will interfere with most headers, for me i had to run braided lines that are rated for ATF & other fluid use with AN fittings at the trans & radiator.

also be sure to read teh directions as mentioned, most all aux coolers are designed to be ran with but after the radiator cooler especially on a street driven car, aux coolers work by air flow & when guys bypass the rad cooler there is no cooling when stopped or at slow mph, the rad cooler will keep it cool to engine temps, then the aux cooler will lower the temp even more based on air flow. plus in cooler temps the rad cooler will get the fluid to operating temps fast, too cool is not good either.

Don't go over size unless a loose converter situation, high stall and cruising slippage. Some suggest you can 'over cool' a transmission.

I made note here about how we installed a larger size cooler that we felt was necessary at the time, turned out to be overkill later....

Don't know the brand of cooler on my car. I got the transmission and cooler from Gearstar in Akron, Ohio. It came with a fan that mounts on the cooler, and has a thermostat switch to turn the fan on or off. If the fluid exiting the cooler is 180 or higher, the fan turns on.
