Default HELP-Front Speaker Removal

In process of removing the front speaker in my '65. I've removed the radio, but have to get the heater controls out of the way as the shop manual says. The enclosed pic shows the back of the controls. Question is: when you loosen/remove the pal nuts/plate shown, do the controls push forward into the interior, or back behind the dash panel? This is a nasty job. Thanks in advance, Dale.

It will pull out to you into the interior but not very far unless you disconnect the wiring
and disconnect the 3 cables from the heater box.

Was able to get the controls moved out, - just enough to get the speaker out too. Hopefully putting everything back together won't be any worse.
