Default When life throws you a curve ...

This is a monthly occurrence as-viewed from my balcony. Tough curve right there. lol

The city has replaced that little parkway tree 3 times in the 7 years I've lived here. Most of the time the "driver" (I use that term loosely) misses the "bend", jumps the curb and comes flying down the sidewalk, usually in the middle of night accompanied by the sound of front fascia dragging. Occasionally they hit the little tree or veer off into the fence (out of view) for additional drama.

Pictured here is from half and hour ago. This was a first and I have to give the guy style points. It was pretty amusing watching the high side door open and the 2 bozos crawl out. I couldn't hit the record button quick enough though.

I think you need a couple of very large rocks as decorations at the mid point in your lawn.

There is just the slightest bend (see sidewalk) I've never even considered it a curve. Somehow these nutjobs manage to run up the curb right there. I don't get it either.

Driving is hard, give the guy a break.

Man... it would be embarrassing to have to admit to being the driver of that car.

Somehow the song “Deadman’s curve” looked a little different in my head than the one pictured.

Must a combination of the fact that the curve is so subtle maybe they don't really notice it when they're distracted by their phone or something??

Although I do know of a person who has rolled their car(s) three times... in the same place!! All single vehicle accidents. I know the road, drive it all the time. There is a real curve, but that's just ridiculous. And, no I have never ridden in a car with him.

Now, you wanna hear what's really funny? The guy is Tom Wopat's (Dukes of Hazzard) brother.

You're telling me that little tree has a 3-0 record, with 1 documented flip?

It's definitely earned the belt!

Mind Boggling
If it was linked from a 3rd or 4th party I would definitely think it was staged somehow.

It happened in that blind curve on ABC street.
What curve on ABC - you mean the little bend in the road ?
Oh hel! no, that blind curve is a gold mine for the cemetery !
You were driving a sports car ?
Its a blind curve that leads straight to the cemetery dammit !

They will probably sue the city, for ignoring that dangerous stretch of road.....

lol. They got a passerby to help them push it back on the wheels just before the cops came. Cops got an ambulance for the driver (the kid pictured) but a passerby showed the cops a phone pic of the car high-sided so they towed it away. here may have a field sobriety test administered that I missed. Good times ... maybe high times?

Amazing, I don’t see any guard rails there either.

I know of a couple streets here in my city where you really have to watch the road crown. Not built wrong or anything it's just a combination of factors created by the conditions. We have one area on a major freeway where there's a big sweeper to the right, then another to the left right after. The transition from one to the other has claimed many nice cars trying to blitz through there.

I have seen cars crash on a straight road? Just plain bad driving.

Interesting. I live on a rural road. The road has a farely sharp corner that goes down hill, near me. Seemed every year someone took out the utility pole on this corner, behind is million gallon h2o tank that's never been hit , I mean 50 yrs! We talked to the crew replacing pole about using thicker pole, concrete blocks. Nope they said they could be sued! So finally about 10 yrs ago they put a light on the pole! This seems to work. Pole hasnt been hit yet.

The day after my oldest son graduated HS, he took a "real" curve in misty wet conditions going way too fast, jumped the curb, off-roaded about 35 yards to a line of trees set back off the road, hit one maybe 4-6" dia, knocking it down, did a slow speed 180, whereupon the tires on one side dug in and flipped the '98 Sunfire convertible over with the top down. Luckily he and his friend crawled out with nothing but a small scratch. In an industrial park that was considered a "fun" drive by my neighbor who had a Miata. On the rare occasions we drove by there, my wife would sarcastically say, "Look, there's the tree we bought."

A girl in our neighborhood managed to smash her car into a brick mailbox just up the street from us one morning on the way to school. On a "curve" much like the one in the pic here. Story was she was "caring" for one of those artificial babies that are used in a class that tries to teach teens not to get pregnant. Apparently the "baby" distracted her. Totaled the mailbox and extensively damaged her car. We always joked that she surely failed that class.
