70 GTO question
I am putting my engine together (400 with a 4 speed) and need to know how the battery cable is routed and attached to the block and where the heat shield tube for the battery cable goes as well. Thanks

The battery cable is run through ties on the inner fenderwell then pass through a steel routing tube between the block and exhaust manifold. See picture

That is correct for the POSITIVE cable that attaches to the starter solenoid.
The NEGATIVE or ground cable attaches via a stud on the front cylinder head bolt.
Sorry, I don't have a pic of this on a GTO, but I've attached a pic of this on a 1969 Grand Prix from the internet. It's kind of hidden behind the power steering hose in this pic, unfortunately. For some reason on this GP, the owner installed a 2nd cable from the negative terminal to the same stud on the head bolt (?). I'm pretty sure that that negative cable was routed thru a different one of those plastic loops on the inner fender, too. I'm thinking that loop was down lower and further forward. Good luck! |
