Removing Reverse Shift Lock on 70 T/A?
Not a fan of the Reverse shift lock and would like to disable it
Is it as simple as removing the rod or is there more to it? My other 70 T/A never had it and I prefer it to work that way, but I'm guessing sumthin needs to be done about the reverse light circuit? |

What I did with my '77 TA with the BW ST-10 is I used a reverse switch setup from a 1963 Corvette with the T-10. The switch setup is mounted to the trans. I made a harness that plugs into the original one at the base of the steering column to the new switch. That way if I were to put the reverse lockout back on there would not be a hacked dash harness to deal with. I'm sure there were a few vehicles from the mid-late 60's that utilized transmission mounted reverse switches.

Back in the day you could always tell if a car had the lever removed so did not have to put in reverse to remove the key, the backup lights were always on.

I failed firebirds at inspection for this. They would wire up the column so they could get key out, then remove the back up light bulbs . One guy was Irate about it. He left the dealership with brand new back up bulbs, that were ON.
All due to headers that never lasted.

Thanks for all the info
I was hoping it wouldn't be so involved I only get to drive her a few weeks out of the year, so I'll probably just live with it as is Now that I think about it, I can't remember if the reverse lights in my other 70 ever worked (been over 20 years since I last drove her lol) |

Sounds easier and better to just leave as designed.
