68 Vinyl Top trim clips
What's the deal with those oval metal trim clips on a 68 A body with a vinyl top? Do they come off? Appear to have a plastic spacer under them. Look to be fastened on with a trim stud.
Just wondering how to handle them when I paint. |

i dunno. What i do know is no oval clips were used on MY install.. Just used the retangular plastic that allows stainless to slide along.

These are attached to rearmost trim stud on the quarter ... that line of studs that is on the quarter to the rear of the rear window. Actually football shaped, not really a clip, more like an oval washer that appears non-removable. I'll take a pic later.

Looks like this ...
There are four of them, one on each side, two along the bottom of the trunk filler panel. |

Those are held on by a nut on the inside...

they're basically twist lock and they go on the ends of trim so it can't just pop off with a bang on it since tightening them up with the nut puts alot more holding force on the trim. all of the body side moldings are held on with those at the ends of the trim runs. tightening them up with the nut twists them on the inside lip of the moldings when you start them loose.
if you're painting, you should remove them. there's thread cutting nuts on the back side just like an emblem nut. |

I'll check the Fisher manual and see if they have a part number.
