For the windshield and backglass, you should be able to do that yourself (with a helper, maybe your wife). Gasket kits shouldn't be that expensive. Door and side glasses are not .that hard to install, adjusting them can be a b!tch.

Complete glass kit, every piece. All gaskets, basically everything but the moldings which I already have. Reassembling the wing windows. Relining the tracks. Installing and wiring the power windows and making them work. Its not just putting the glass in.

Gotcha. I can see how that might get a little costly if you are paying someone else to tackle it. That said, it shouldn't be that crazy, especially in contrast to the expense of body & paint work. If you were given an eye-watering quote, it couldn't hurt to contact a few other people for estimates. I'm sure you're already giving some thought to that. Sometimes people will throw out wildly high numbers for jobs they'd rather not deal with, hoping the customer will take their work elsewhere, or if not, buy them a new boat.

This guy only does antique auto glass and he is the only shop around here that will take it on unfortunately. He’s not putting it off. He was doing a 62 Impala with a 68 cougar in the other bay the day I got my estimate. I think it is just what he charges and the fact that I’m doing power windows etc. he said it was an estimate and could be less so here’s hoping. As far as the rest of the car I am very pleased. Well worth the 8hr trip

Yeah, that's out of line, you need to shop it, it should be like half that. Ask your body guy for a quote, it doesn't have to be a 'glass' shop.

That's odd, most will do it. Well, as stated, the front & rear glass is easy, it's the butyl tape type, can easily be done with a friend. I've done mine many times by myself.
Doors, you can do the install, and then have a body shop do the adjustments. That will save a lot of labor hours. Here's one vid I found on YouTube doing a quick search, should give you a general idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2nJAy3tvrc The Assembly Manual has instructions too, would give you a general idea of what's involved. You can also post in the 64-65 section, maybe the Body Shop section, and others will chime in on tips/sources for reference. .

I am going to assume you have already asked your body man who he uses. I can't imagine a body shop sending every car out with no glass. Every body shop I have ever used either did it it themselves or had a glass that did the installs on-site.

My bodyman has a glass shop that comes in to set the windshields but my tracks are **** and need to be relined. The vent window assemblies were rechromed so they have to be reassembled. I am converting to power windows. It’s a mess. I am not paying 5K but it’s not just a glass install.

Honestly, you're probably lucky just to find someone who can do that kind of work outside of a high-end roadster or restoration shop. hey charge prices in line with level of work they are doing. Your car is in that league with the amount of work being done

I don't think so, there's folks around me that go around to body shops and glass shops that specialize in certain classics that have unique installation requirements, like 60s fords and stuff.
Some of the body shops that do general rust repair and paint for classics have folks that can do it, but yes, they are a little like a 'few and far between', but not impossible to find. Some of those people also do stuff at people's homes, mobile service if you want to call it that. Talk to people at cruises and stuff like that, it's peak season right now, should be plenty of events you can scout for talent. .

Ok did some research today and ended up calling the guy back. I got some references from other guys in the hobby and they all said basically pay the man. I called and asked him what 5000 meant and he said he always estimated the worst possible situation because he didn’t want anyone surprised. My track needs some welding and everything else and he took the time to inspect every piece when I got my estimate. I feel like in this situation you get what you pay for so….onward and upward
