1967 GTO Disc Brake HB wheels
Need five HB stamped wheels 14" x 6" for 1967 GTO with front disc brakes. These are unique steel wheels for disc brake only cars. The normal GTO wheel which is stamped G will not fit. Also the Tempest wheels which are 14" x 5" will not work.
Thanks, Tom |

wheels for disc brake car
Hi Tom,
I'm on a similar quest but just need one wheel for my spare tire. I have a 67 GTO with factory disc brakes. Have you found any wheels? I was reading in the Paul Z. restoration manual about the wheel codes and see different info about cars with disc brakes. Says part number 9773690 (14x6) was used for cars with disc brakes. And was stamped DB. Where did you find the 'HB' code? Will Last edited by pilot737; 06-27-2021 at 07:11 AM. Reason: added text |

Will,
I can't speak to the DB codes as to whether they will fit or not. My original 1967 GTO disc brake wheels are stamped by the valve stem hole "HB". (That's on the outside side of the wheel so you don't have to take off the tire.) The 1967 Pontiac Service Manual shows HB as the disc brake wheel for the GTO. The normal GTO wheels are "G". The Tempest wheels are "HA" for for Disc Brakes and "A" for drum according to the manual. So it is a small population of wheels that we are looking for after over 50 years. I do not know if the Rally I and Rally II wheels were made unique for the disc brake cars or not. If any used original Rally wheel will fit both drum and disc brake cars then that would expand what will fit and would be an option. Tom |

wheel code
Tom, thanks for that info. I had only looked in the Restoration Guide and he states the code is "DB" for the disc brake wheel... I'm assuming that is a typo. To be clear, I don't have a wheel that is stamped "DB".
I do see now in the service manual the code "HB" for disc brake wheel...and no doubt that's correct because you see it stamped on your wheel. I've owned my car for four years and the previous owner put 14 inch Rally 1 wheels on the car. And the owner previous to him had 15 inch Rally 2 wheels. The current (repo) Rally 1 wheels clear the caliper so they seem to be okay. But I thought it would be cool if I could find the correct steel wheel as the spare. |

Well that is good to know that a repo Rally I will fit. Thanks for that info.

I just went through searching for wheels to use on my disc brake equipped ‘67 LeMans. I ended up putting a spacer on the fronts to clear the calipers. There are Rally Wheels that were made to clear the ‘67/‘68 disc brake calipers. I didn’t go with them because they are 14”. See the attached for codes.

My 67 GTO came with 3 of 5 original HB wheels - eventually found two more on Ebay with 1969 model year dates. There are some very slight differences in appearance but nothing noticeable unless you really scrutinize them.
I looked for about a year for true 67 model year wheels and eventually broadened my search to additional model years because the '67 wheels were so tough to locate. Good luck! |

70L34: Thanks for that info. Were the '69 wheels used also stamped HB? If that is the case then maybe any HB wheel from '67 to '71 or so might fit. I'll broaden my search to at least 1969 MY.

Great to know the Rally wheels fit. That would be a more expensive route, but at least it is an alternative

If you aren't married to the specific code, the GM 14x7 wheel (or aftermarket 14x7 stamped wheel) will clear both the 67-8 dual piston caliper disc brakes and the later 69 and up disc brakes. Surprisingly, i could not get original hurst wheels to clear the 67-8 disc brakes without a spacer.

Andre: Thanks for that tip. I will start looking for those GM wheels. There have to be a lot more of them than the HB wheels.

Sorry for the delay, been away from the site for a while. Yes, the 1969 wheels were also coded HB. I may have an extra if you are looking.
