No loose crank pulley or balancer bolts? Your problem sounds exactly like mine. Wish I could load the video.

I need to ask a question of reply 18 in this string if I might.

The op states that when the belts are off the noise goes away, so how in your mind could the issue be a rod smacking a dented oil pan?

Woke up this moring, looked at the phone. Message "are you sure you checked the bolts". So I immeadialty thought how many times I was told, and I told, are you sure. So I thought yeah I am sure. lol. Checked this morning---tight--tight--loose----tight-----tight--tight--now loose-tight---tight---tight---tight---tight---. started car no noise BINGO So I am going with 2 bolts not tight, one more than the other. I believe it was Greg Reid and ROHT----- the big clue I couldn't shake---- Like it's just 'projected' into space. Thanks People. I new it was something stupid--ME. lol

lol... If you're stupid, so am I. I chased that noise for quite some time. Adjusted valves at least 3 times, replaced water pump, tried every combination of belt/no belt, etc.

I had a knock I couldn't figure out on my 67 Catalina . I disconnected the spark plugs one at a time and did the squirt gun deal. I finally found out it was the torque converter bolts or nuts (which ever) that came loose. I tightened them up and the knock was gone.
