Delco DC12 Reproduction Battery
Greetings. I have a ten year old Delco reproduction DC12 battery that is finally starting to give up the ghost. I am pretty sure these batteries are constructed with a regular battery (lead acid or AGM) inside the reproduction DC12 outer case.
I had the thought of somehow trying to open up the outer case and replacing the actual battery inside. I have scoured the web trying to see if anyone has done this project successfully, but I couldn't find a thing. It might sound like I am cheaping out here, but the fact is these new reproduction batteries approach $400.00 USD, plus shipping to Canada if that is even possible. If I could get this outer case apart and do this project for a couple hundred bucks with a high quality battery, I would be all over it. Has anyone here been through this project? Any tips or tricks? I understand you can buy "toppers", but I would rather not go that route if I can "fix" this battery. Thanks! Last edited by propuckstopper; 03-01-2021 at 06:25 PM. |

While i don't know for sure, I would start by opening up the bottom. That way any surgery would not be seen.

Put a regular battery in the car, then shut the hood.

You sound just like my wife (after I told her a new one was $400.00)!
Haha! |

The thing went together somehow, so my thinking is that there must be a way for it to come apart. |

I am all for doing things that I have been called crazy for even trying to do, but non the less getting the project 100 % perfect and not minding the excessive time it took me, but this that you have in mind to do, even I would not attempt!!!!

Maybe try replacing the acid first.
Many vid's on You tube about how to do it. |

To get to the acid, you would have to get to the internal battery. This, of course, means opening up the external case. If I could get the external case open, then I think it would be more logical to just replace the whole battery.

This thread has pic of a repro battery taken apart - perhaps similar to the one you have? Dan |
