Wet deck tiger head cooling
I searched around, but didn't find much about wet deck tiger heads... So forgive me if this information is already out there.
Bracket 511 IA2 with Tiger heads. Bought the heads used and they have been drilled for the center exhaust cooling mod. Where do I run these lines? (Standard timing cover and meizere pump) My current E-head 525 I am running a water manifold. Each corner of the head dumps back to the top of the radiator. Thanks in advance. |

Plumb out of the cold side of the radiator, or water pump if possible, into a high pressure pump. From pump through a inline filter and into the fittings above the exhaust ports. The water then makes its way into the heads cooling passages.
If nobody chimes in with the pump model number, I will look at mine in the shop and post it later. |

Talk to these guy's, they will tell you the best routing for the style of Pontiac heads your using. And they are a great source for the items you will need to make it happen. Bob

The pump is:

So you pump cold water into the heads at these ports? Or is it an extra outlet for hot water exit?

Cold water goes in there. Should be pressurized water also, thats what the pump hp400dave posted about

On my son's 535 w/ wet deck Tiger heads we just put a tee in the middle and routed them all to the water manifold. So rear water hole to tee fitting at center hole then that ran to the manifold. Front water holes got they're own line to the manifold. Seems to be working. Hard to see in the picture. Car is put away right now. Can't get better pics for you.

Thanks! Have any pics of your setup? (I'm a picture book guy)
Sounds like a need a remote pump going in the exhaust side then route the valley pan port to the hot side of the rad with the front+rear of the head. Almost wondering if I could drill and tap the water pump and run a cold line to the exhaust side of each head.... I have to imagine someone has tried this at some point? |

You can't use the regular water pump because it doesn't have enough pressure. The water would turn to steam before it could cool the head enough. The Shurflo pump is high pressure and therefore can put enough water there to make a difference.
I don't know how to post pictures, but it is simple on my car. The water pump is built into the bottom of the radiator. I have 2 lines feeding the front of the block and 1 line feeding the high pressure pump. Out of high pressure pump to a filter and then into the heads above the exhaust. Out of the 4 corners of the heads with #4's in the back and #10's in the front. They go into a 4 into 1 manifold and back to radiator. |

It is also a good idea to have a water pressure gauge on the system. You would be surprised at how much rust the filter picks up. I recommend cleaning your water filters after each race. I actually log water pressure on my racepak.

John, what are you using for a filter? You have it on the output of the high pressure pump?

I put a big filter in front of the pump and a small one after it. The big one is an inline #12 that is about 8" long. I assumed there would be rust from the block. The pressure sensor is a great idea. Where are you checking it?
I haven't been able to race because I was sick with Lyme disease for 2.5 years. It made me dizzy with flu like symptoms. I'm better now, but I have 900 remodeling and new construction projects around the house. My business is very busy and I'm getting married, so no racing until I get all that done. It all worked good on the Dyno though! |

Two of them. One on each outlet of the secondary water pump. Check the filters every other time out. Lots of crud gets caught in them. Last edited by Scott Rex; 02-20-2021 at 11:20 AM. |

Thanks for the help everyone. Keep the info coming!
I usually run these AC delco tablets in my cooling system... https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-GM-12...59644470&psc=1 I take it I shouldn't run these anymore? Assuming the risk is that this little passage between the two exhaust valves gets closed up... ? |

Do you run a wet, or a dry deck setup?

Thanks...Another question...Is the Langer Split Rail Pan readily available? Or is is a custom piece?

Custom since it comes in a few different configurations. Usually it takes only a few weeks from time of order to completion.
