Default #62 heads, with upside down casting numbers?

Is it common for the "62" to be "upside down" or are these like some kind of rare penny worth a million bucks because of an imperfection at the mint? LOL

They’ve both got the same date, 9/11/68.

Yep dad bought his 69 GTO new and it came with upside down 62's. His is an early car built in Sept 68 and everything on his engine is dated Sept 68 just like your heads. Sounds like the foundry must of had a run of upside down casting numbers for that particular head since we have similar dates.

Would be cool to get some data points together and see how long that lasted.

Yup!
As you can see since the casting is in good shape that the two casting number plates where screwed down in the sand cast former upside down.

They where likely cast on a Monday morning shift after the super bowl, lol!

Steve, you inspired me to look at a 1968 calendar and September 11 was a Wednesday that year. No worker should have had a hangover (hopefully)! I was figuring it was a Monday/Friday glitch but since it was the peak of the workweek I’ll have to go with either someone trying to be funny or maybe even someone mad at their assembly line supervisor.

As for the heads, I’m going to disassemble them this weekend and take them for a dip in the tank and a mag next week. I’m praying that there are no cracks because these heads are pretty cool!

Those castings hold up very well unless they are incredibly over heated, so I will bet that your golden!
