oversize lifter 389
Is there a good alternative to a .842 lifter. We have a tripower block that the stock lifters are plenty loose. want to stay w a hyd lifter. I see chevy has some bigger but always heard the band was in wrong place.

Yep, Chevy lifters have the band in the wrong place.
Only thing I am aware of is to bush the lifter bores and have them honed to spec. Others with more engine building experience should add more, But I think the bronze bushings are the way to go, but may cost. |

Look at a Small block Ford lifter it's .875. I've used SBF solid roller lifters on a few Pontiac builds but never looked into the HFT working.

The cost of boring the lifters .033" over to use the Ford lifter can't be all that much less then bushing the bores I would think?
Also either way thining up the walls of the bores by .015" or so does not give me a fuzzy warm feeling about the wall strength left, but I guess in terms of a street Hydro Cam with no more then 300 psi of open spring pressure things will be ok aleast in terms of the lesser loaded lifter bores on the driver side of the motor.

As far as strength goes, one we did around 1998 has been as high as 270 on the seat and 750 open with a 280 degree @ .050 solid roller and is still working fine. I'm sure it will give many years of service with a HFT camshaft. |

My solid roller lifters were on the high end of tolerance with my lifter bores so if my block ever needed to come apart again in my life time I was going to look into the 0.875" lifter conversion. Paul, is there much difference in the band location with a Ford lifter compared to Pontiac?

My hemi V8 has Ford roller lifters that I modified (custom pushrod seats for the large pushrod angles). I don't recall modifying the oil feed at all.
