On a pontiac, the factory crank uses a long key, instead of dual short keys like a chevrolet, so you will have to use it in the camshaft. Just be aware that the 987G key will advance or retard the cam 4 degrees. It is advertised as a 2 degree "crank" key, but when used as a "cam" key, it will be 4 crank degrees.

lifters
I will definitely try that,, I had a spare and a quick bench measurement was .195 almost 200 thousand
seen this post If they're 7/16-20 then that's 20 threads per inch. So using simple division gives us .050" per thread (you simply divide one thousand by 20 threads, and you get 50 which represents 50 thousandths of an inch, AKA .050"). Therefore, one complete turn will yield .050" of inch. Your answer is one turn. And a 1/2 turn will yield .025" wonder how so many peeps are getting by with only 1/2 turn thats way too little?? |

first ride
well finally got to take the car for a ride,
air temp 55 vac 14 inches 750 street demon running a bit fat timing 13 static, 21 mech, 10 vac (manifold) real slight lope at idle no-ping anywhere here are my initial thoughts of the 2802 compared to the 068 idle quality excellent lost 2 inches of vac was 16 now 14 no different in brake pedal feel power came on about 400 rpm further 068 would start pulling bout 2200 summit cam bout 2600 lost a slight bit of torque not at all an issue just give a little more gas I can definitely feel a power increase, made 2 runs at my favorite street with mostly farms and straight hardly no tragic first run dumped the clutch at 2800 or so no match for my 70 series radials shifted at just 5500 rpm and got some serious rubber 1-2-3 forth I was a bit chicken **** and and slowed down checked my memory on my Dakota digital spedo mem and 122 mph and that was in short order I had so much fun doing this that I turned around and did it again. I had my son in the car which works on the new rice burners with fart pipes. yes his face was white as a ghost and stated he could not believe the acceleration that a 50 year old car has..... let it cool off with a slow ride back home where we washed off the rubber pasted to the rear fenders of my 11000 paint job had fun for sure issues I still have ticks a bit, quiets down a lot when warmed up might play with the lifters again or just live with it. ditch the carb and put my efi back on after it gets back from warranty repairs. thanks a lot for all the help guys... honestly I am thankful |
