I sold an intake to Alan I believe quite a few years ago for his car (Firebird though I think).
It could possibly be his that Travis is running? The 3rd Buth is probably their Dad. (used to drive a Pinto or something)

Does anyone know what HP rating of Julie Biermann's D/SA 68 Firebird is and Chris Stephenson's E/SA '68 Firebird is?

Div 3
The '68 Birds driven by Julie Biermann & Chris Stephenson most likely run the 330hp 400 engine. NHRA factors the auto trans version at 333hp.
They would be a natural E/SA class. But, NHRA rules allow weight to the added to run a lower class & removed to run a higher class. So, they can run D/SA, E/SA, or F/SA. Most racers try each class to see which class allows them to run further under the index. And, sometimes they will run a certain class, for different reasons, at certain races. http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...9&MAKE=Pontiac Chris & Randi Lyn survived E-1. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop Laurel Morris had the only Pontiac powered S/ST car to survive the 1st round. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop At the div 4 & 6 races, all the Pontiacs lost 1st round. Well, there will be some changes this year, due to the plague. But, the "Big Go" is still on ! Qualifying begins Thurs morning.
https://www.nhra.com/schedule/2020/n...a-us-nationals For those who like to watch the Sportsman classes online, you can pay $18.99 to watch most of the action. http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...4&postcount=11 http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...8&postcount=12 Pontiac Stockers on the pre-entry list are driven by: Randi Lyn Shipp, Julie Biermann, Chris Stephenson, & Todd Kuhn. https://www.nhraeventreg.com/ListEve...II1&cc=8&rn=18 SS Pontiacs are driven by: Jack Good, Don Kennedy, Casey McCarty, Mike Morgan, & Bill Rink. Everybody on a pre-entry list don't always actually show up at the race. Don't know how many Pontiacs will actually make a pass. But, this list includes some former Indy class winners. https://www.nhraeventreg.com/ListEve...II1&cc=7&rn=18 Last edited by ponyakr; 09-02-2020 at 08:44 AM. |

Julie Biermann was #26 @ .996 under, in Q-1. That is if these numbers are correct. In the past, I've encountered LOTS of mistakes on this site. An example of that is the #1 qualifier on this list is shown running more than 2 seconds under. Don't think so. Even if the car would go that quick, nobody would do it. Class is probably listed wrong. Maybe the DRC list will be posted soon, & we'll have a more accurate list.
https://www.nhra.com/results/2020/nh...alifying-order Chris Stephenson is #76 on the list, & Todd Kuhn is #88. Looks like quite a few cars did not make a pass. Maybe the track conditions were not that good. Last edited by ponyakr; 09-03-2020 at 10:52 AM. |

Here's SS Q-1. Bill Rink is #16 @ 1.04 under. Jack Good is #88. Mike Morgan is #95. Casey McCarty is #100.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Don Kennedy is #129. Don't know what's up with that. ? If I missed any Pontiac powered SS cars, ya'll post that info. Sometimes I don't know that some of the GT cars are Pontiac powered. Last edited by ponyakr; 09-03-2020 at 02:34 PM. |

" At Indy they do not have the automatic HP adjustment system turned on."
I don't think so. But, I do know that system is very complicated. At least to me it is. Seems I've read that at SOME races 1.2 under gets automatic hp. Then I think I remember reading that they look at how many times a car runs 1 sec or more under, in a given period of time. If that number is too high, that combo can get hp. I don't know exactly how they decide how much hp to add. Don't know if there is any politics involved, or not. But, there are several class racers here who I'm sure can explain the whole system, in great detail. I would like to see the whole thing explained in one single post, so that I could refer to it & even link it when needed. I've also read some very lively conversations on the Class Racer forum about all sorts of rule changes. A while back there was a big dispute about some intake manifold for small block Mopars that NHRA had made legal. The Mopar guys loved it. Their competition didn't like it, at all. There is aprox a 50/50 split on whether to go with the TruSTART timing system. It basically gives the loss to the car with the worst red light, when both cars leave too early. They call it "first or worst". Most of the quick guys want 1st. The slow guys want worst. As the system has been, for many years, the slower car always has the 1st chance to red-light. Quicker cars have won MANY rounds just because the slow car left too early. That not only gives the quick car the win, but also gives 'em a free time trial, during elims. Most feel that the fast car also has the advantage of being the chase car, being able to see exactly where the slow car is all the way down the track. The fast guys say they have paid LOTS of money in order to have a fast car, in order to enjoy all the advantages of being the quicker car. So they don't want ANY of those advantages taken away. https://dragillustrated.com/trustart...with-accutime/ https://www.wwtraceway.com/compulink...park-dragplex/ https://bangshift.com/bangshift1320/...acing-forever/ http://www.competitionplus.com/drag-...-go-nationwide Last edited by ponyakr; 09-03-2020 at 03:35 PM. |

Randi Lyn & Chris survived Stock E-1.
Chris had a heads-up E/SA run. Apparently his opponent was not familiar with the Bird, & thought he could slack off on the light. WRONG ! He ran nearly a tenth quicker. But Chris got to the finish line 1st ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop LOTS of class racers qualify & dial much slower than their car will actually go. This is to avoid a big NHRA hp hit for their combo. Big numbers calls attention to a combo. NHRA hp hits have rendered many combos almost non-competitive. So, sandbaggin is just part of a smart class racer game. Last edited by ponyakr; 09-04-2020 at 10:34 AM. |

4 Pontiacs survived SS E-1. Three opponent red lights & a no-show. Unfortunately, the no-show was one of the Pontiacs. Apparently Mike Morgan's Bird is broke.
The round winners are: Bill Rink, Casey McCarty, Jack Good, & Don Kennedy. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 09-04-2020 at 12:09 PM. |
