Measurement needed
Saw another post that reminded me of something.
Could someone, or a couple of people, measure the distance from the front of the Q-Jet carb air cleaner stud to the rear lip of the finger guard? Just one final check to see if my core support is in the right place. Thanks |

I measured 18-7/8 from the leading edge of the stud to the edge of the finger guard.

Mine measures 19 3/16” from front edge of center carb stud to edge of top fan guard.

Thanks ... I write those down and come up with an acceptable range for mine.
I think this will give me a good idea if the core support is in the ball park for the fenders to bolt up ... since the body is not on the frame I can't take any measurements off body locations. Were those measurements with the cleaner removed and from the base of the stud, or with the cleaner installed and at the top of the stud? Jeez, just a tad over 1/4" between the two ... that's pretty close. |

Mine with air cleaner on, top of stud. Front clip installed. The core support will probably move some when fenders installed, mine did, so I would think 1/2” of play either way from 19” would be fine.

I did mine with the air cleaner off from the bottom of the stud.

That means they were even closer to the same measurement considering the trig.
I'll put a level on the radiator and check the measurement at plumb. Of course the support bushing allows it to slide forward and back a 1/2" easy. I'll get worried if I'm at 18 or 21 |

I'm at 19" +/- 1/4" with the radiator held level, measuring from the base of the carb stud.
Just kind of a final check on the repop core support I had to hack all to pieces and reweld to get the correct lean. I'm assuming if the lip of the finger guard is in the right place, with the radiator plumb, that everything else is in the right place too. Much thanks for the measurements. |
