We used to hang out in this gas station in the 60s and 70s. Little did we know it was the first gas station in the world!!! The Gulf station on Pittsburghs Baum blvd..

Pontiacs did well in Pittsburgh due to the Wide Track and massive hill climbing torque, they road right outside of the street car tracks.. Growing up I saw Pontiacs every were.. Having the biggest steel industry in the world paying big bucks also helped lol.. Since we destroyed Japan and Germany Pittsburgh was the industrial center of the world back then and it was a great place for a gear head to live. I saw people build all kinds of things.. Especially out of aluminum, since Alcoa was in our back yard too.. As far as pollution, Most people died in there late 80s early 90s, maybe because they didn't worry about money, ate real food and didn't ingest and wipe unknown chemicals all over there body's like they do today..

Below a panoramic view of Edger Thomson in Braddock Pa. You can make out the Westinghouse bridge on the right edge of the pic.

389- thanks for the virtual car show! Even Pontiac power, in the '35/36 Ford coupe.

That Pontiac powered coupe might be a Pontiac. If it’s a ‘34, it’s not a Ford, no suicide doors. Can’t figure out that grill though.
Here’s a ‘34 Pontiac with a fifth wheel instead of a rumble seat!

Must be a 35. Heres a photo of a 36. Note the sheetmetal band below the windows is narrower in the 36 than the old photo.

Agree that 5th wheel is cool. Be nice to see one today plain jane simple design functional, no sleek custom. Cat dealer is Cleveland Bros. now.

Yeah, they were breaking the place up when I left. Moved the weld shop to Blawnox Pa, Fork Truck shop to N. Versailles Twp., and then sold the business. Left the end of 84 and moved to SC. Homestead was gone by then and became a water slide park!

Looks to be Crown Pontiac in St. Petersburg, Florida.
https://m.facebook.com/30.Millionth....2051285486444/ Not sure if the building remains but looks like they’ve continued in biz now as a Buick and GMC dealer I think. Last edited by John V.; 08-12-2020 at 09:31 PM. |

Yes, they grew to multiple dealerships but their first was in St. Pete and that is the building they opened circa 1970 as seen in the TV commercial I linked.
