Default best way to determine if a 4-speed Muncie transmission is original

I hope everyone is doing OK. What is the best way to determine if a 4-speed Muncie transmission is original to a 1967 GTO? I think I can get the PHS documents for the car if that helps. What are my options if I CAN get the PHS docs, and what are my options if I CAN'T? Thanks for any help?

I don’t think the VIN stamps started on the transmissions until 1969

My '66 Had the last 6 of the VIN stamped to the top front edge - next to the bell housing.

Your partial vin should be stamped on the top of the tranny but nearly impossible to see unless you pull the tranny . On the passenger side near where the tail shaft bolts up you should see some numbers and letters . See my pic . Get that for us and we can tell you if your tranny is original to the car .

The photo you posted shows the trans assembly date stamp for a Muncie, correct? Is the VIN stamp close to it?

My original '67 Muncie with the last seven digits of the VIN. Looks like the guy that did the stamping must have partied hard the night before.
