Wiper arm release 67 GTO
How do you release the wiper arm from the motor assembly? I need to adjust the resting position as it sits too low on the windshield.
The piece that the wiper blade attaches to on the outside of the car... in case I didn't describe it correctly in my first sentence. |

I wonder too. I dont know if there is one but maybe a tool made for this. My 66 sits a little high but ive been afraid to touch it as I dont want to mess up any paint by just prying up on it. Sorry hopefully someone knows more...

If you can find a one of these they work the best.

Didn't even know there was a tool for that!
The end of the blade assy fits over a splined shaft. There is a small spring tab on the inside of the wiper arm that rests into a circumferential recess on the splined shaft. you need to take a small screwdriver or similar tool and move the tab away from the splined shaft while pulling the wiper assy from the shaft. You may need to use a mirror to peek up into the end of the blade to see the tab. Hope the explanation works for you. George

Use this tool ..Lisle 65750 .get some blue tape and put a couple layers to top of the arm where the tool rests . Do not use a screw driver on your nice gto .i just bought this tool a few weeks ago and it worked great . Go on eBay and buy the tool for 9 dollars shipped to your house !! That one works very good as well.
I use a plastic putty knife under it to avoid paint damage.

I've always just used a pair of channel locks with some tape on the top of the wiper arm to protect the finish. The upper jaw hooks under the bottom of the round portion away from the wiper blade direction and the bottom jaw sits on tape right at the pivot joint. Just a little wedging with the pliers to get the splines and wiper arm in a neutral position and it slides straight up and off. The main force you are fighting is the wedging effect of the wiper arm spring on the post.
The tool would be nice though.

If you look underneath the wiper arm where it attaches to the spindle, you will see a small tab. You need to press that tab outward to release and remove the wiper arms.
I did this about six months ago using a screwdriver and a few different kinds of picks. Just be sure to protect the paint on the cowl.
