Are you going to use it in a 61-63 tempest? The only issue for the top end is what year heads you use on your early block. The valve angles were changed in 67.Tom

Newer heads should bolt to the block. One note 63 and older heads have the 12 bolt intake, the 64 and up should be 10 bolt intake manifold.

64 Blocks use the older 12 bolt manifold and it's different that the (65-79) manifolds? (61-64 )That said if you want to run newer open chamber heads or new Aluminum, heads you really need to do a piston change for the valve angles. I know some guys run the new heads on the older blocks without the piston change but I wouldn't. Push rods are different and all valve geometry will be off. In my book its a No No.

Just run 65-66 heads AND intake manifold and you will have no issue!Tom

Tom is correct, but you will have high compression and may need more then 93 octane fuel. You could also get custom head gaskets to lessen the effect of the lower octane fuel. My 64 with the 716 heads will just about ping with 93 plus booster. If your on the east and north coast you can get 93 fuel. If your on the west I don't think its available but I maybe wrong and I'm not sure about the south.
