Auto shift cable
Is there a reason an auto shift cable seems to buckle or bend? The old one I got with the car had a bend in the end. I got a new one and it seems to buckle when trying to shift into park. The tranny has been rebuilt and I can shift under car by hand with the reverse lockout hooked up ok and shift cable unhooked.

I straightened my old one with a bend in the end. It was a bit restrictive in the movement of the rod into the sleeve. I sanded the rod a bit and the restriction from the slight bend went away. I reinstalled in car and it functions without problems. Makes me think the newer ones are made of less quality material even though they look the same.

You may want to check your engine grounds to the body and frame. When those grounds are missing or dirty the shifter cable can end up acting as a ground. When this happens the cable gets hot and the plastic crimp gets hot and breaks. New cable will do the same thing unless you correct the ground problem.
