Power to manual master cylinder
72 lemans sport converting to manual brake what master cylinder will work for me? Did a search and I’m striking out . My brake system:
Front aerospace street strip setup Stock rear drum I purchased a strange master cylinder through summit but it came and the mounting ears aren’t the same width and drilled for 5/16 fastener. I can make it work but I’m figuring there has to be a better fitting one available?? Thanks |

I did this on my '64 GTO. I have a Strange master also. I think it's 15/16" bore. I elongated the holes slightly . Works great. I also added GM B-body tall spindles with 12" discs. I love it!

Wilwood, Strange or stock GM cast iron with 15/16" bore, or 7/8" might even work. I used a Wilwood 1" bore master on my brother's '70 A body with manual stock front discs and it works great. Wilwood suggested the 1" bore because of the volume the stock D52 calipers use.

I use a 85 DODGE 5th ave. Looks identical to Strange, Wilwood etc. Mine has a 1" bore. Was $35 at autozone, brand new , not a reman. I cut the studs off my pedal assembly and welded in 5/16" bolts the spacing distance needed.

The 64 that I ran had aerospace fronts (AC205) and drum rears, used a stock 71 A-body master cylinder for manual drum applciation, 1.00" bore size. Used the proper pedal ratio, and it stopped fine from 135 to 0.
There are lots of opinions out there on the internet about master cyl bore sizes relative to manual disc brake applications, and not a lot of "if you have X, use the Y master cyl diam". If you have a ton of pedal effort and little stopping power, drop down 1/16 at a time in bore diam - that's my experience.

Thanks guys. After some “precise”measuring I did as suggested and hogged out the holes to make the strange MC Work. When I first looked at it I didn’t think there was enough material there to get it done but she is sitting against the firewall now. Trying to make Norwalk! .

I've just used a die grinder to widen the hole spacing to fit GM for these Mopar/Strange MCs. The come in sizes from 7/8,15/16, 1 &1/16 and I think 1&1/8.
There is a site for manual S10 brake MC kits that have some info and what Mopar vehicles have what size.
