Parts help, please
Hi, we’ve been having a discussion over in the body shop are about this part and where to get it. I’ve hopefully linked it below.
It is the top cap that screws into the vent wing frame at the top of the sash channel. I can’t seem to find it anywhere. The sash channel fuzzies I got from our host have a molded in blob that sorta looks like the original. I am concerned that it doesn’t look right and that the screw might pull through it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Murf https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...0&d=1549406487 |

I have not had one apart in a long time but I believe that is suppose to be part of the vent weatherstrip.

Is this what you are looking for?
From a 64 LeMans, it appears there is a screw recessed in the groove, never replaced. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Yes, that’s what I am speaking of. On yours does it look like a separate piece from the actual fuzzy window channel.
Does it seem that the screw holds the mounding or that there is just an access hole through the piece together to the screw? Thanks Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I wish I had a better camera but I put my readers on and it looks to be one piece, no seam on the sides or in the channel.
I can't really tell if ithe screw is holding the top of the channel, it is recessed. I have never removed it but it looks like there may be a metal strip on the backside of the fuzziest to screw to the frame. It is pretty deep and horizontal to the ground and not perpendicular to the angled frame. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Tomorrow I will pull that screw out if I don't have to force anything and see if it is holding anything to do with the fuzzy channel.

Thank you for checking that out for me.
The pic I posted is of a 67, I think. I assumed they would be very similar, if not the same. Ames shows different part #’s but talks like they are made in the same way. At this point, I think I’ll just go with what I’ve got. I can’t seem to be anything different anyway. Thanks again Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Unfortunately I can't see those pics on my phone and my PC is toast.
Repost if possible and I can compare the difference if possible. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

It appears the new run channel seal/felt doesn't have a tab on the upper portion where it slips into the small upper rubber seal/bumper piece.
The screw should be a Flathead not what you are showing. This screw retains the sash felt as well as that rubber seal.

To be clear this is 66-67 not sure not sure it applies to 64-65.

For 1964
A single flat head self tapping screw was used to secure the uppermost portion of the vent window sash channel weatherstrip (strip). The originals had a metal strip for reinforcement on the backside that was provided when this piece was formed. This strip was one piece. I was going to caution you when handling the reproduction, as the head is subject to separation (breaking free). It appears as if I am too late. If you need to drill out the reproduction to accept this screw, oversize the hole slightly to obtain a better fit, as the repros' are not designed the same as the originals. Make sure it sits snugly and bottoms out inside the channel before tightening this screw or you may break the upper section off from the remainder of the strip. The screw shown in Post 9 is not correct, the screw head visible in Post 10 is correct and should be used to assure clearance for the door glass. To avoid stripping out the hole be careful not to over-tighten this screw. |

Have you called Steele rubber? They make all kinds of molded weather-strips and rubber outside seal parts for older cars.
I think they sell that end as a separate part.

Thanks Pete, I checked them out online and didn’t see anything listed. Maybe I should call and see. I’m beginning to think I will just go with what I’ve got, at least for now. It doesn’t look right to me but all the vendors seem to have the same style. I know there have been a lot of cars restored by a lot of people. I thought this would be a “know issue” if it was a problem at all. IDK. Thanks Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
