Default Sitting 30+ years :(

My step-brothers '68 GTO parked in my Dads field in Texas for 30+ years. My step brother has since passed away, and the car is just sitting. Pretty sure every body panel and the frame are all toast. 400 HO 4 speed car. I have tried to buy ithis car for over 20 years until his death to no avail. His daughter moved to California and won't do anything with it....had a lot of good times in this car in the late '70's.

Look salvageable to me, seen way worse come back.

Heck, sneak out there and grab that chrome valance trim, I'll give you $100 for them if they are nice

Offer her a couple grand cash ... I bet she'll take it. Looks like it's worth it to me.

Cool b/w 1970's Texas plates, I remember those from growing up. I see a spot on the trunk lid for a dealer emblem. What part of Texas?

I can't remember if the dealer tag was from Bill McDavid or David McDavid. One or the other. Central Texas.

Those are Dallas/Ft Worth area dealerships. I think it was BIll McDavid that had a great dane named Wide Track on their commercials. "Right Wide Track? Woof!"

Yes. I remember seeing commercials for both when I was a kid. I believe they were brothers, and the Great Dane was in all of them.

Tell your niece that your step bro would have wanted you to have this car driving and enjoying it. He'd be pissed knowing it was rusting away sitting in that field. Show your interest and it will be yours. Good luck and wish you many happy miles. Cheers

You say all panels and frame are toast but the pics really look to be of a fairly solid project. Give her a couple of grand and suggest she go back to what she's been doing for the last 30 years as far as that car is concerned... That is, not caring about what happens to that car.

In all honesty ... I'd pay $4000 for that car right now if it was in the yard across the street. looks like mostly surface rust. And I bet most of those panels are straight.

I'm from Minnesota, that car is damn near "rust free" in our terms!

Yes ... I say it's your duty to save that car, have a heart to heart with the sister and make it happen.

Heck... give us her email and we'll send her charming, disarming, emails to help her understand the situation.
