I glanced at the trim tag but didn’t take a picture. It was for sure R-1 and PON. I *think* it was 5C or 5D.

Doesn’t really get any better than this one for ‘68. I was drooling for sure.

Very nice. I wonder if the car was born as a deuce or a recreation. Either way, it looks great. Should have the 4 blade fan but that is a small detail.....the 5 blade fan likely cools better anyway.

That is the second 68 that I have seen without the nose emblem and front valence moldings. Did some 68s not get those items? There was no emblem on my nose.....nor any holes but I am not certain its original to the car. Before I bought my car in the late 80s, it had been in at least one collision and the color was changed so it's anyone's guess if that nose was original to the car.

I noticed those details too and a few others. I’ve forgone correctness on my car many times just out of pure preference. Seeing the correct brushed trim rings makes me want to get a set for me car. They look great with the bias redlines.

BTW - the sign with it indicated it was an original RA II car. Even if it wasn’t, it’s a super nice car. I’d love to own a set of those heads one day with or without a car attached.

I know what you mean about the trim rings. I have one good one and one not so good. On the hunt for a nice set.

Therre were a set of RA II heads on CL here in Phoenix. I can look them over for you if you are interested in buying them....unless Matt snagged them already. He usually grabs that stuff pretty quick once it's posted for sale.

When I last checked with PHS, they have only pulled build records for 5 deuce convertibles. A black one, one burgundy, one gold car, one red car and my green car. The red car would have black interior and black top so probably a different car then the one you saw...unless the owner just wanted a white interior instead of black. What color was the top on that car you saw?

I suppose it's possible the owner of that car has the original paperwork and build sheet so perhaps no reason to contact PHS. That could explain why Jim isn't aware of that car??

Thats a helluva nice beautiful car.
They all usually have a few liberties with them when you build them to keep.

Think those are 14x7 wheels with trick brushed rings.

R1 is right for Red/White
Maybe there's a chance someone confused the top color code as black on the PHS candidate car.
Or another new unknown member of the Deucebeurg Club is stepping up

Think I’d like to see documents on that one.

I'm pretty sure I know who restored the red car. I may be able to get more info in the future. It's a real RAII.

I have the owner’s name from the sign at the show but didn’t post it out of privacy.

One other nit I noticed were the rally gauges. They were the right steel blue face but the left pod had the ‘69-style hash marks and type around the face. The two sets I have don’t have those marks and type is stacked.

Would like to see that info. I've heard conflicting stories on this one.

That would be cool. Looking forward to the info when it's available

Any idea why the VIN would be painted over and rendered unreadable?

Ken, I first got to see this car at the Benicia show this year. A member on here has done the restoration for a client that hailed from the mid-west. Very nice car.

Saw the red convert again and snapped the trim tag. The date is 05c.

Looks like coybilt did the resto as his name was on the sign next to it and his cards were on the car.

Any idea of what the 50-1SC means?
Usually that's the gate fixture # I think?

Also wouldn't it be a RA I?

05C or later , is a quick reference point for hunting in the dark.
Nothing but a rule of thumb indicator though.

The VooDoo Deuce Hdtp Auto that Boss had was 05C from PMD Plant

It might be a special memo type thing.
Don't know for sure they even used fixture ID's in 68
Haven't got enough PMD Plant TrimTag samples in my files to say for sure

I have no clue what 50-1SC means either...?
My trim tag is blank in that spot, Arlington built.

I do have a photo of a trim tag for a PON built hardtop and it has 11-1 in that spot. Can't make out the month/week stamp though...looks like 06D.

I will see if I have any photos of 68-24267 PON tags. .

Photo of 03B convertible built in PON. It has 50-1 upper right corner.

Of the few PON body tag examples I have....all have a small character "c" after the TR #. Curious what that is for?

Photo comes from a car posted for sale online. I downloaded all the pics to use as a guide to help me reassemble my similar model car.
