Anyone here ever deal with Trans Am Specialties in Miami?
The restoration on my 70 T/A has been on the backburner in my shop for almost 20 years now
I've come to the conclusion that we're just way too busy with contract work to ever give her the proper attention she deserves, so I'm looking into other shops that are better equipped to handle the restoration.... Trans Am specialties was the first that came to mind as they're somewhat close by in Miami (my shop's in Orlando). Has anyone here ever dealt with them before or had a restoration done by them? |

i dont have restoration experience with them but have dealt with them quite a bit in the past. bought parts from them & sold parts to them, also had a friend sell a car to them. they seem like a good business & i never had any issues in my dealings with them.
but if youre looking to complete the restoration of your car, their prices may be higher than the average shop that is just as capable. pays to research the shop &/or talk with the owner about your expectations. |

I've actually spoken to Rick and Alex in the past and their pricing seems on par with what I'm willing to work with. I know plenty of shops that are quite capable of performing the work, but not many I'm willing to trust with my baby My biggest fear is actually having a shop pull a Hennessey or folding up all together while my car is in pieces Going by the photos on their website, they seem to do good business, but I have yet to visit their facilities.... |

I’ve been in that shop, I was in the area at a convention last year, from my home in Alaska. I came in at a quarter to closing time, and the owner gave me a full tour and was super nice considering I stated right up front that I just wanted to see the shop and the cars they were working on and I wasn’t there to buy anything. We stayed a half hour past closing and he let me look at anything I wanted to and was more then willing to just talk TAs. I bought a couple of shirts because I felt guilty of taking up his time.
I’ve got a 74 TA in need to sell, and I may ship down south to consign. I’d ship it to him if he wasn’t so far away. |

I'll second that recommendation and remind everyone of the 997 out of 1000 the car got at MCACN last November. Some of the best cars have come out of that shop!

In no particular order but if I had to have a ta restored I would take it to either.
Darrell at supercarcreations Scott Tieman Steve at Muscle car memories. Nyle Wing at Wings Auto Art I would not take my car to anyone else. A full nut and bolt resto is going to be very time consuming and its going to cost lots of $$. |

T/A Specs in Miami knows 2nd Gen cars inside & out.
They understand these cars. Compared to other shops in your area that probably do not. I would let them do a car no probo - especially if cost were in my expected range. They did my 73 SD TA after i sold it. They did a 74 SD TA for same customer before he bought my car. Any tricky 70 specific details you had concerns with - you should advise. Any specific replacements you want on missing or damaged or rebuildable parts you should advise as well. They specialize mostly in 77-81. And they sell used / repo / aftermarket replacement parts. So you might want to be abreast of what was being used where - if you had certain preferences. 10 years ago - paint & body was subbed out to an excellent source. Then T/A Specs handled all assembly and detail work. Great guys and been doing it for a long time. World Beater high buck resto and distance no object - there are numerous choices. |
