Default Modern Gauges - Who has done them?

Any tips or advice on a gauge set up. I saw a hot rod this weekend with the Phantom Gauges in it and they were pretty cool.

Not stock looking - I get that. Any feedback or pic's?

Friends don't let friends install modern aftermarket gauges in classic cars... Don't do it! Like installing modern wheels on a classic car, modern gauges just don't look appropriate, IMO.

I have had this iteration in the car for about 8 years. The water temp gauge was mechanical and failed. I have a Sport Comp in its place now. Electrical and more accurate.

I have some more pictures of how I did it if your curious. I have plans to do it all over again in the near future, as the car is coming off the road as soon as I get a garage.

Does anyone make factory style gauges that can be installed in place of the idiot lights and look original?

Years ago, I installed Auto Meter Phantom II oil & water temp gauges in my 67 GTO. Easy, standard install under the dash. (I have the older Phantom gauges in my 67 wagon)

I also sourced a kit to redo the faces of the factory dials in white (much brighter and easier to read at night as well). I've been happy with the function, look & combination (idiot lights & aftermarket gauges).

It's a unique look, but one I like. Goes well with the white paint on the car.

This is the gauge panel I'm working on for my '72 Cutlass convertible. The gauges are slight customs from New Vintage.

David,

Hope all is well in NC....

I have looked at the Thunder Road dashes..... but I would miss the woodgrain look of the OEM..... I wonder if anyone has ever applied some matching woodgrain vinyl to one of those....

I have the Dakota Digital HDX series in my '65. Love it.... My car came with the standard dash. I was going to update to the rally gauge setup. Cost wise,by the time I would of bought a rally cluster and had it rebuilt it would of cost the same.

Xs 2. I agree 100%. Modified is one thing, gauges no.

That's only my opinion Troy. Granted repos are expensive, but everyone can do as they please with their cars. Now if these replacements looked closer to the original rally gauges I'd might consider it. But not with what I see out there. For now my GTO is modified enough as it is.

I get it..... But I to go back and forth.... One of the things that I love about classic cars and especially Pontiacs is their dashboard.....

I want modern accuracy with classic looks....

Or..... just leave it be and live with my Autometer stuff hanging under dash as its been for the past 15 years....

I guess the wide band gauge I just ordered should not go in the car, lol..
