Tach backing plate
Sorry for post here, also have Parts Wanted ad.... In a jam.... I'm doing clock to tach upgrade in rally gauge dash..... Dash is apart and evidently lost old tach backing plate. If anyone has one ratholed.... clock has smaller diameter round opening than tach, won't work. Plate is one that attaches to back of rally gauge housing.

Do you mean the plastic part that is part of the tach mount or part of the metal housing that the entire cluster sits in? I have a complete old tach but not sure if I kept the other housing or reused it.

the main rally gauge housing has a bolt on plate for the tach, so I am missing the tach flattish plate that goes to main cluster housing. It is metal and held on by three screws.

I'm thinking this is specific to the early years (1970-73?) I looked at a later unit with a tach and it looked like the tach bolted right to the back of the case.

Probably never going to use it so yours for the price of postage and however you want it packaged (padded envelope?). Keep in mind that it is steel and coming from Canada into the U.S. HaHaHa
Also probably going to take a few days to get to you going across the border. If you want it, PM me your mailing address and I'll get you the exact cost. Dennis |

There are 2 different versions of that metal mounting plate.
The early Trans Am gauges from 1970 to I think 72 have one version and then in 73 they changed that plate as well as the light blue plastic former that holds the tachometer meter movement. The early plastic piece that fits the early plate are both very hard to find. The later version is very common and was used in Trans am as well as Lemans GT gauges from 1973 up to at least 1977. Just FYI The reproduction tachometer-clock assy they sell is the later version. There is no reproduction of the early version available that I am aware of. If there is any need I would be happy to photo them both side by side & post here. PM me if interested.

Anthony;
You really should specify what your tach is from; iirc the reverse of the tach will dictate which plate you need. Sorry that I don't have a spare backing plate.

My tach is a 73 and it fits perfectly in the plate pictured, and that plate fits the 72 gauge housing in car. as an FYI for anyone doing a Rally Gauge w Clock to Rally Gauge w Tach conversion as this, there is one other needed part besides this metal plate. The clear gauge cover is different for clock vs tach. The shaft for the small clock knob on the tach is in a different location than the big clock one. So you need a tach one to change to. Luckily I had a nice one extra, whew.
