Lookin for '77 Cat or Bonny
Considering a '77 Cat or Bonny, for a LOW budget street/strip build.
Prefer a 2-door, without the Landau vinyl roof. Pontiac V8 a plus. Can't use a rusty project. Doesn't need to run. But, a tired driver would be nice. $5k max. |

I spotted this one on Ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/113156935261 Its a 2-door with no Vinyl top, (even has no hood spear or ornament, I have only seen 1 or 2 without them in the past) 350 V8, looks clean and in your price range. and only 1/2 way across the country from you. LOL!!!! Even still has Grandma's Plastic Seat covers on it. Currently no bids at $3750.00 BIN of $5200.00 If you get it and want to swap hoods for one with all the glitz let me know, I actually like the cleaner look.

Yeah, I like it. Don't look like a hot rod. But, I can fix that. Bob Michael has a '77 Cat Stocker now. So, they can be used on the strip.
I can't go to Ebay, at all. I get exactly what I posted above. Where is the car located ? I was beginning to wonder if any of these cars actually still existed. I'm using the Library internet. I went to the desk & ask if they knew why I couldn't get Ebay. It seems that they have just started a new policy, today. No access to any auction site. The reason they sited is because of pornography on some auction sites. I said : " I'm easy to get along with, but I think that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard ! Didn't think Ebay had any porn. " But hey, as they say: " It IS what it IS. " Last edited by ponyakr; 07-25-2018 at 03:10 PM. |

Well, after complaining, they lifted the block off Ebay. I looked at the Cat. Looks decent, depending on reserve price, AND my shipping cost.
The quickie shipping quote from Eship is $744. That sounds bogus, since all the quotes from a closer point in FL were much higher than this one. The distance is over 900 miles. So, that $744 price would be well under $1 per mile. Haven't gotten a quote that cheap from any other location. I looked up reviews of Eship. Most(but not all) were good, on most review sites. So, has anybody here used Eship ? Do you guys have an opinion of them, one way or the other ? https://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/eship.html https://www.bbb.org/south-east-flori...and-complaints https://www.yelp.com/biz/eship-coconut-creek-2. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/auto_trans/ Just as I thought, that Eship quick quote was bogus. Just got an Email from one of the shippers. Their quote was $1259. Wonder how many people have been shafted for $500 or more on car shipping, getting a low quote, but actually paying much more ? I don't know about the shipping prices, as I would usually take a couple of days off and bring a trailer and get it.
But I don't think there is a reserve on it, the opening bid is $3750.00 with a BIN of $5200.00 So any at or above the opening price is a sale as I understand it. I could be a great sleeper. It should weigh around 3600-3800 lbs, lighter than most late 70's F-Bodies. And the Chassis is basicly a 73-77 A-body, and 2nd gen F-body front sway bars fit them I have a 11/4" WS6 front bar on my 78 Safari.

I don't expect there'll be a single bid on it, since it's not a sporty model, like an A or F body. As always, I could be wrong.
Anyhow, I sent a message saying that if the reserve wasn't met, I'd be interested. So, as our President says: "We'll see what happens." I'd like to have it. But won't consider anything over $4k total, including shipping, for it. Now an '81 or older F-body, in that condition, would be a different story. I've been looking for a while. In that kind of shape, they're WELL over $10k. One of the best deals I've seen, so far, looks to be a '79 GA. It's a 301 4-speed. I thought it might go cheap. I talked to the owner. he said the reserve was $4500, if I remember correctly. Don't think the bids ever got up to $1000. The car has a 7.5 rear. But, other than that looks like a good driver. If it was closer I would have checked it out real close. Somebody here may be interested. Looks like a fun driver. There are no details, but this may be a similar car. Don't know. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...mp2&CMP=stemp2 But, the car in FL is black & looks good, to me. Here's what a Black one look like. https://barnfinds.com/1979-pontiac-grand-am/ https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hppp...tiac-grand-am/ Last edited by ponyakr; 07-26-2018 at 07:33 AM. |

I would stick with the B or F Body cars myself, after owning several 78-83 GM A/G Body cars, I have decided they don't ride as well as the other models, that and the rear frame rust issues they seem to be prone to.
The ride issue really became apparent to me when I replaced our 83 Cutlass Cruiser wagon with the 78 Catalina Safari we now have. World of difference, the A/G Body seemed to almost porpoise down the road, and no the shocks were not bad. But I agree $4000 is a reasonable total price for the White Catalina as there is no real demand for the body style.
