Default 1972 455 Y code GTO Coupe (1 of 5)

Looks like this car is back, and up for auction in PA this time. Isn't this the same one that was involved in the major rear end accident a few years back? No mention of that in the ad, but I can't imagine it's a different car.

From what I can see in the pics, it looks like someone did a pretty good job with the repairs. Seems to be complete and running/driving in nice order. I'm happy to see it whole and back out there again. (Would be a neat compliment to my Monarch/Saddle 72 GT )

Anyone know anything about this sweetie?

You can always tell a non pontiac seller.. "big block"..will they ever learn.. anyway is this a 1 of 5?? It is nicely optioned though! also if it was rear ended wouldn't it be totally repainted? May not be the same car..

Found this article that I remember reading a couple years ago. 99.99% certain it's the same car.

Again, I'm super happy it was repaired and it's back out there, but of course now I wonder how to value it? Not even sure what it would be worth if it hadn't been wrecked. Hmmm...

It has to be the same car, it has the same dent/indentation by the Pontiac emblem.

One thing I noticed on this '72 LeMans Coupe is it was optioned with rear armrests. Have yet to see that, but only have invoice copy's on a few '72 Coupes.

Few fun facts...
- All '72 LeMans Coupes (whether optioned with the GTO option or not), could only be ordered with a bench seat and the standard interior door panels and rear panels.
-The rear side trim panels, on '71 23327 Coupe body style, at least in several colors, are the exact same panels as used on '72 D27 LeMans Coupes. Covert was a new color for '72.

I know a lot about the car, but before around 1990. It was bought new at Haynes-Gailey Pontiac, the local Pontiac dealership in our county, by the family of the future wife of a friend of mine. Somewhere along the line the wife of my friend was the primary driver of the car. I drove by it daily and tried to buy it off my friend. One day in 1990 or 91 he decided to sell it and shortly thereafter I worked out a deal to have another friend of mine who lived in Florida purchase it. He kept it for awhile and then sold it. After that I lost track of it.

Update to the Ebay auction. Someone must have gotten to him.

On Jun-11-18 at 06:11:58 PDT, seller added the following information:

Attention: Everyone interested in buying this car should copy and past the URL below in their browser and read about the history of this vehicle. It was brought to my attention from some Pontiac enthusiast that this rare GTO has a bitter sweet past. If you can not see the URL below go to the video and read the comments. One gentleman had posted this same link. Any questions please let me know. Thank you!

Looks like it’s back up on eBay with a BIN of $21,750. For any other “decent” 71-72 GTO, I would say that is a ballpark fair price. So given the accident history versus the 1 of 5 prominence, what say you guys? I don’t think it’s too far off. Of course it requires that one buyer who values the rarity of the car. Hmmm...

I would still luv to add it to my collection if I could justify it with my others.

Thanks for the history on the car, Jerry. Very cool.
