68-69 power antenna
Anyone rebuilt their power antenna? I think I bench tested it years ago before I installed but not working very well now. Just took it back out and not sure if I should attempt to fix myself or find an expert?

Call this guy.... Frank at 352-688-8199 in Tampa FL. He rebuilds power antennas for Pontiacs and I assume other brands too. I bought one from him a few years ago for my 66 GTO and it's topnotch. I've referred others to him and they've said he's very good.

Is it just sluggish...weak...no torque?
Many, many times, it's just a case of cleaning the commutator where the carbon brushes contact it...then light oil on the bearings or bushings.

I have the factory-stock Power antenna system, except the power antenna is a Volvo/Mercedes/VW unit with 2 cube relays to get up/down from the factory wires.
Even use the factory quarter mount Bezels. Or they sure look like factory bezels. |

Thanks GT182 for directing me to the right guy. Can’t thank Frank enough for spending the time to get it figured out. Sending him some $ for his time and will definitely use him for any future needs on power accessories. Gave me some tips on getting my power seat running smoother as well.

I've heard that Frank does great work. I was referred to him also. I was lucky enough to find a NOS mast at GTOAA last year for my power antenna. Am planning on sending my down to Frank to be gone through and replace the mast.

So, the suspense is killing us...what did he have you do?

The motor was working in both directions, but the the antenna was not extending, just clicking. So I thought inner plastic ribbon had become detached or broken. Frank helped me determine that since I couldn’t extend by manually pulling on the tip, the ribbon was probably still good. We then got it to extend with motor plus manual help. We were afraid there was a kink in one of the 3 telescoping sections. But after getting it fully extended, saw that it just had a slight bend and needed cleaning. I gently bent back to straight and cleaned/polished with fine steel wool. Cycled through several times and worked like a charm.
A win to offset the many frustrations trying to revive these 50 year old machines!
