Thank you for tactfully making me think just a little.. I unbolted the retractor, rolled front and back a little, was then simple to reach the bolts. DOH! Seat is in, carpet's good enough for me. Other side should be easy now. |

Correct, factory carpet leaves a gap under the front seats. My LeMans 4 dr has a bench with original carpet, same thing; a gap between front and rear carpet from one end to the other.
I guess it was a combination of saving a bit of carpet and ease of installation.
