When I made the changes to my car to start consistently running the 5.0’s all I had left was 2 1/8 mile races! When I get out this year I’m looking for 4.90’s in the heat!

[QUOTE=Jeff Kinsler;5872914]Hmmmm. My deal is can only run certain heads in the class I run. No cantes valve, no billet. So it is tigers, RAVs, hi ports or edelbrocks.

Is there much in the way of meaningful classes to run a billet or canted head in ?

Problem is with those canted but Pontiac exhaust head is that they are still "inside the box". Its called the "Twisted Wedge on one side and Cr@p Exhaust on the other.
Kind of like Wannabe Party in the front but Kentucky Mudslide in the back !

Those piles even ever make 800 HP on pump gas. Maybe they have. But I bet it was not much more than that.
What do you want to bet I am going to make more pump gas HP on my first crack on a aftermarket block build than you have ever got in the entire existence of the Cpileocrap-1 ???

You should have just left me alone. I am going to have fun with you for a LONG time.

Now pitch that bottle back and take a big gulp. You must be thirsty after all that.
With unported heads, 565 mad 820hp and 521 made 780hp on pump gas. Street car that did Dragweek. Built for durability, not max effort.

On the east coast, perhaps X275 or RvW? Those are some sobering thoughts.

But FOUR. 4 sets to get it right? What happened to the other 3 ? Where are they at ? What kind of shape are they in ?
Has ANY Pontiac racer shelled out hard earned cash, and not Monopoly money for FOUR pairs of heads, back, to back, to back to BACK just to get it right ? I think he must be the first. He had better have a lot of money because most working people would have jumped ship after the second set for sure.
He is your LONE RANGER, unless Fulton gets his Unicorn converter.
Dragncar,
How about this. Something most of us can not do. He had the money each year to step his program up. Instead of taking his heads off and getting them update which takes time and you can not be racing. He got a new set and sold the old set. How many times did Mike update the ports on his set of "E" heads?

Hooter,
Please do not confuse Dragncar with facts. He gets all of the information he needs from the twilight zone clown.

Or Robin has more than one car he put heads one. Quite a few reasons why he would have 4 sets. But its more fun to speculate that he burned up 3 sets.

The key sentence in there is “takes time away from racing”

Not much racing going on there bra.

Serious racers usually have multiple sets of heads in the rotation. The possession of (4) sets of heads can be for a multitude of reasons. Speculation as to "why?" is pointless and could easily lead to a wrong conclusion.

Most people really interested in a subject tend to EVALUATE several sources and then after evaluating those sources do a "bang for the buck"
analysis. My old company always had several irons in the fire at the same time when it came to boosting. Nothing wrong with Robin having several sets of heads for his program.

Anyone can burn up a set of heads or simply fail a set of heads over time. We actually ran parts until failure on engines several times on a connecting rod study. The rods failed with-in 200 hrs of each other on 3 engines. Deal was the engines had 1700 HOURS of dyno tests on each one before they failed. Several LIFETIMES for a typical sold production vehicle.

Why is it with Pontiac Guys that it ALWAYS has to be ONE WAY and any other way is dog poop?

Just wondering? Same with peoples thoughts on how THEY want to build THEIR engines.

Tom V.

Disclaimer....I don't know Robin and have no clue what he's up to.
Here's a hypothetical plausible explanation for owning (4) sets of heads (with the understanding that there could be 50 other plausible explanations):

Set #1 on the car
Set #2 identically prepared as #1; in the trailer for spare
Set #3 at the shop getting "new stuff" tried on them
Set #4 untouched...waiting to see which is better...set#1 or experimental set#3.

I could also be totally wrong...which is usually the case with speculation.

Eric
